No charges will be filed against employees of the Lewis County Solid Waste and Transfer Station related to Comptroller investigation findings earlier this month.
District Attorney Kim Helper’s office released a statement to Mayor Bill Webb which was announced during the Monday evening Board of Commissioners meeting.
“We support the finding from the Comptroller’s office,” Helper told the Lewis County Herald during a telephone interview. “The lack of internal policy caused some confusion on policy. It would be a challenge to show criminal intent,” she continued. “Stonger internal controls are needed at the Transfer Station.”
“The DA’s office recommends each man pay back the money,” Mayor Webb explained Monday. “We are working on how to do that. Internal controls are already compliant,” he added. Internal policies were created as soon as the matter was brought to the attention of his office, the mayor concluded.
