Saturday February 2, 2019, Pennsylvania and Staten Island’s “rodents” predicted an early spring during the 133rd annual Groundhog Day celebration.
According to German legend, if a furry rodent casts a shadow on February 2, winter continues. If not, spring comes early. Neither Punxsutawney Phil of Pennsylvania nor Chuck of Staten Island saw their shadows in those early morning hours.
Spoiler alert: the prediction is actually determined by a group on Gobbler’s Knob, a tiny hill just outside Punxsutawney.
