A monthly education group focused on heart health awareness and management has been formed at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC). The new Healthy Hearts Education Group will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
The group will meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 1 until 2 p.m., in Private Dining Room 1 on the medical center’s ground floor. Topics for the meetings will vary by month, with a goal to provide education and awareness in order to promote self-care and management of heart disease.
“We are pleased to offer those affected by heart disease a new opportunity for the sharing of information on heart health,” said Lisa Chambers, nurse manager for the cardiology unit at MRMC. “Each month, informative speakers will provide timely information about ways to keep our hearts healthy. Those affected by heart disease and their family members are encouraged to attend our meetings.”
Rena Smith, a nurse practitioner at the medical center, will speak at the group’s first meeting on Tuesday, May 3. She will discuss the basic types of heart disease as well as lifestyle modifications which can help with managing the condition.
