Katie Sue Johnston, age 96, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at her home.
Funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 3 at First United Methodist Church in Hohenwald with Drew Brewer officiating. Burial followed in the Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia.
Mrs. Johnston was born October 6, 1922 in Centerville, a daughter of the late John Taylor Denton and Myrtle Harris Denton. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for approximately 43 years with the Maury and Lewis County School Systems.
She is survived by two daughters, Jimmie Kay McCarthy (Mac) and Sonja Sue Reeves (Jimmy), both of Hohenwald; one son, David Johnston (Pat) of Ardmore, Alabama; grandsons, Robert Johnston, Chuck Johnston (Harroleen), Randy Johnston (Sabrina), Derrick Johnson (Jennifer), Steven Johnston (Jo Ellen); granddaughters, Natalie Cruz (Chano), Lara Brewer (Charlie), and Heather Rawdon; and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her husband, James Iverson Johnson; brothers, David Denton and James Robert Denton; sister, Polly Collier; and son, Danny Johnston.
McDonald Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
