LCHS Panthers Lose Two, Win One District Game

0110 hinson 937 ortiz 944 cheer 0961 985 cothamLewis County High School Panther basketball team suffered a district loss to Hickman County January 11, 2019. After a hard fought game, the local boys came out on the bottom with the final score being Hickman County 75, Lewis County 64.

Hickman County Bulldogs jumped on the Panthers the first quarter 17-4, but Lewis County fought back the second quarter, 30-16 to gain a one point lead, 34-33 at halftime.

The Bulldogs dominated the second half, 19-13 in the third quarter and 23-17 in the fourth quarter for the win.

Cameron Cotham joined the 1,000 point club with 30 points, 1 assist, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Peyton Crowell followed with 15 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Bryson Hinson added 10 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds; Mikey Ortiz, 7 points, 6 assists, 1 rebound and 1 assist; and Cade Banks, 2 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds and 1 steal.

The Panthers traveled to Camden January 8 for district competition. Lewis County lost 73-68.

Camden led at halftime 41-26.The Panthers outscored Camden the second half, 42-32, but fell short of the win.

Cotham sank 28 points to lead the Panthers in scoring. He also had 2 assists and 6 rebounds. Ortiz had 14 points, 7 assists and 4 steals; Hinson, 13 points, 3 assists, 11 rebounds and 2 steals; Crowell, 13 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound and 4 steals; Huntlee Pace, 3 rebounds; Banks, 2 assists, 1 rebound and 2 steals; and A.T. Brewer, 1 assist and 1 rebound.

Lewis County Panthers hosted Creekwood on January 4 and picked up a district win 63-48.

The Panthers finished the first quarter 17-14, but Creekwood came alive in the second quarter adding 16 to the Panthers’ 13 for a tie game at halftime.

Panther offense entered the second half with the determination to win by scoring 23 points to Creekwood’s 8 in the third quarter to place the Panthers 15 points in the lead. Both teams added 10 points each to the scoreboard for the Panthers’ 63-48 win.

Ortiz led the Panthers to the win with 24 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Hinson added 19 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal; Cotham, 9 points, 2 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals; Crowell, 8 points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds and 1 steal; Huntlee Pace, 2 points, 1 assist and 1 rebound; and A.T. Brewer, 1 point and 1 rebound.

The Panthers won their last game of the Hickman County Christmas Tournament, 67 to 53, against Shelbyville on December 29.

Four of the local boys scored in double figures. Peyton Crowell led the pack with 19 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.Bryson Hinson added 17 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 5 steals; Mikey Ortiz, 14 points, 6 assists, 1 rebound and 5 steals; Cameron Cotham, 12 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds and 2 steals; and Cade Banks, 5 points and 1 rebound.

The Panthers traveled to Fairview for competition Tuesday, January 15. They will host Waverly Friday, January 18 and Perry County Saturday, January 19. On Tuesday, January 22, the local team will travel to East Hickman.
