LCMS Football members recognized at Board meeting

The Lewis County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room on South Court Street. All members were present: Chair Jeff Gandy, vice-chair Glenda Atkinson, Clark Bates, Derek Cotham, Cassie Couch, Brenda Helentjaris, Marti Lomax, Nancy McDonald, and Phyllis Townsend.

The Board recognized the Lewis County Middle School football team coaches, players, managers and cheerleaders. They were recognized for an undefeated 8-0 season.

The consent agenda consisting of the February 9 meeting, surplus property, and an add-on was approved.

Congratulations was extended to the following teachers for being selected as building level Teacher of the Year: Justin Bell, LCHS; Renee Thompson, LCMS; Brenda Denton, LCIS; and Rhonda Haygood, LCES.

Director Benny Pace approved leave request for custodian, Brandi Sharp, from February 8 through March 28, 2016. Resignations from Lorie Lineberry, Educational Assistant, effective February 19, and Dawn Kelley, full-time bus driver/Special Ed Educational Assistant, effective March 7, were accepted by Director Pace.

Director Pace stated Garry Craig retired on February 19, 2016 after 35 years of teaching in both Lewis and Perry County Schools.

Gena Powers, previously a substitute teacher, accepted the position as Special Ed Educational Assistant effective February 26, 2016.

Richie Mayberry was hired as a full-time bus driver, to replace Dawn Kelley, effective March 2, 2016. Mr. Mayberry was already working as a sub bus driver for the school system.

The board approved Board Policy changes to 6.4031 and 6.3072 and the 2016-2017 School Calendar.

The Board also approved the 1:30 p.m. game time for the Lewis County High School Baseball team on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 who will be hosting a game with opponents from Park Tudor, Indiana.

The add-on pertained to the sale of school property on Colonial Road. After exploring several options from auctioneers, in regards to selling the land, Mrs. Atkinson made a motion that the land be sold by sealed bids. Motion was seconded by Mr. Clark and approved.

The next board meeting date is set for April 12, 2016.
