Martha Jane James, age 89 of the Cathey’s Creek Community of Lewis County, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016 in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald with her grandson, John Eglinton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Downey Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday, September 30, 2016 at 5 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home.
A homemaker, Mrs. James was born August 21, 1927 in Dover, Ohio, a daughter of the late Enoch Levi Whitehead, Sr. and Myrtle Sharp Whitehead. She was married to the late Jessie James.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Eglinton (John, Sr.) of Hampshire; sister, Mamie Duncan of Hohenwald; grandson, John Eglinton, Jr. (Karen) of Hohenwald; three granddaughters, Debbie Elliott (Kirk) of Franklin, Melissa Collie (Jon) of Hampshire and Amanda Edmonson (Kevin) of Chapel Hill; great grandchildren, Emily Vanhook (Brice), Jessie Eglinton (Olivia), Taylor Elliott, Claire Elliott, Savanna Collie, Joseph Collie, Will Edmonson, Charlie Edmonson and Ava Edmonson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Enoch Whitehead, Jr., Claude Whitehead, Willard “Buddy” Owen Whitehead and Jerry Wayne Whitehead; and sisters, Maggie Lou Rosson, Edith James, Eva Mae Head and Anne W. Archer.
The family requested those desiring to make memorial contributions to do so to the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund.
