Coach Eugene Grinder Memorial www.lewisherald.comA granite monument honoring Coach Eugene Grinder, 40 year director of Memorial Park, was installed Thursday, June 16, 2016 at a Smith Street entrance.

A fund started by the local park board was adopted by Carol McCann, Helen Ozier and Park Director Bucky Isbell and succeeded in raising $5,000 to cover the cost through donations.

“Bobby [McCann] and Coach were really close. I knew it meant a lot to Bobby and to Cindy to get it done. He touched a lot of people. I knew it was important,” Carol McCann said.

The order was placed about 120 days ago with Leoma Monument Company who also installed the memorial.  The monument weighs approximately 5,200 pounds.

Donors included Highland Corporation, Jones Pharmacy, the South Central Area Fair Board and numerous private donors.

“This is a really great Father’s Day gift,” his daughter Cindy Bailey said at the installation.

Lighting and landscaping will be added soon, Park Director Isbell indicated.
