Panthers Defeat Vikings, Waverly

Lewis County High School Panther basketball team were hosts to Perry County Saturday, January 19, 2019, snagging a 67-62 victory.

The Panther offensive run in the first half scored the win for the local boys, going into the second half with a 10 point lead, 35-25. Perry County outscored the Panthers the second half, but not enough for the win.

Cameron Cotham led the Panther attack with 20 points, 4 assists, 17 rebounds and 3 steals. Bryson Hinson followed close by with 17 points, 3 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Mikey Ortiz scored 14 points and had 8 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Peyton Crowell added 12 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds, and Huntlee Pace had 4 points,1 assist, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Cade Banks snatched 3 rebounds.

On January 18, the District 11AA fourth ranked Panthers traveled to Waverly to pick up a district win, 68-57, over the fifth ranked Waverly Tigers.

Hinson led the Panthers to the win with 24 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Cotham had 22 points, 3 assists and 7 rebounds. Crowell added 11 points, 5  assists and 3 rebounds;  Ortiz, 9 points, 4 assists, 6 rebounds and 1 steal; Pace, 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal. Banks had 3 rebounds.

The Panthers suffered another district loss with Fairview, 63-42, on January 15 at Fairview.

Lewis County was down by three at halftime, 28-25.

The Yellow Jackets dominated the second half, outscoring the Panthers, 35 to 17 for the 63-42 final score.

The Yellow Jackets put a hold on Cotham, allowing him only 3 points and 2 rebounds, but left Hinson open to score 17 points and grab 3 assists, 12 rebounds and 2 steals. Rounding out the offense were Crowell with 11 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound and 2 steals; Pace, 7 points and 2 rebounds; Ortiz, 2 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds; Banks, 2 points, 2 assists and 1 rebound; and A.T. Brewer, 1 assist and 1 rebound.

The Panthers played on the road against East Hickman January 22. They are scheduled for two more road games January 25 at Stewart County and January 29 at Creek Wood.
