Two men from Brownsville, Texas were driving west on Smith Street Sunday night, December 9, around 8:30 when they went off the roadway in the 1000 block and slammed into a tree. The driver, Hugo Cortinas, 45, said that the two worked for Up2Code and the truck belonged to business owner Tracy Bain, Chandler Street. When Hohenwald Police Officers Clay Colley and Shane McKnight arrived, they found that the passenger in the vehicle had injuries to his head. Maury Regional Emergency Service personnel and Hohenwald Fire First Responders arrived to offer assistance. The passenger was transferred to Maury Regional Medical in Columbia by ambulance. Cortinas admitted to officers that the pair had been drinking. He was taken by HPD for a blood alcohol test. Taylor’s Wrecker Service was called to tow the Ford F150 and re-open the roadway.
