The Lewis County Historical Society will meet Monday, April 4, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Strand Theatre. Melissa Wickline, who started the Hohenwald/Lewis County Heritage and History Group Facebook page, will be the speaker.
The Facebook page is a public group and has 2900 members. Mrs. Wickline has been interested in the history of Lewis County and Hohenwald since the day she moved here. She started asking questions about people, who they were related to, who were the first folks to settle in this area, where did they all come from and how did they get here in the early days. She also questioned about older houses and buildings throughout town, who built them and when.
Presently, she is working to compile a cookbook which will contain recipes and stories about cooks from the past. She is also a contributing writer for the Lewis County Herald.
At this time, she and her husband, Shannon, have purchased and restored four homes in the historic district and have plans to improve other property they have purchased.
“It is inspiring to see someone move into our community and in a few years develop a knowledge and love for our people , past and present, such as Melissa and Shannon Wickline,” Historical Society President Barbara Hinson stated.
Everyone is invited to attend the meeting.
