I would guess that many residents of Lewis County and Hohenwald were awoken by the ringing of the telephone in the early hours of Monday the 27th, it was the emergency service saying we were under a thunderstorm watch for a few hours. It did come a thunderstorm but now as severe as was predicted we had lots of thunder and lightning but no hail and not a lot of wind we did have lot of rain. Hope in your area it was also calm. I am glad we have this service to warm us of dangerous weather situations. Those I know of who are sick either at home,...
Once again last week, the weather has been a big influence on the area as Wednesday afternoon there was hail in some places about the size of a baseball. During the thunderstorm that brought the hail a large tree fell just below my house and several on Claude Carroll Rd and on Little Swan Creek toward highway 412 were without power for several hours. The power was restored thanks to MLEC at about eight pm but the internet and phones were out until Thursday about noon. There were lots of tree limbs and debris around the area and we were under a...
Last week was a very trying and unusual weather week, on Wednesday afternoon we had hail along with thunder and lightening and lot of rain, the hail was as large as baseballs in some areas, and this can certainly damage cars, houses and animals that are out in the open. Our area was not hit by tornados as some in the center Tennessee area and even some loss of lives. We pray for those in areas where this damage and loss occurred. We are still having lots of rain along with thunderstorms. Monday started off with thunder and rain in the early...
Pretty sure that Spring is here, it has been in the mid to upper eighties several days lately and even the nights have been warmer. The flowers are doing well, and many wildflowers have already bloomed and lost their blooms. We have had several thunder showers and many with heavy rain and even heavy thunder and lightning, which has hindered many of the ball games from being completed. Several softball and baseball teams were on the fields on Saturday along with Spring Fest which also suffered because of thunderstorms. Hope you didn’t get wet i...
The blackberry bushes have really been blooming and so maybe there will be lots of berries this year. I think spring has really sprung as the temperatures at night have been in the sixties and daytime in the eighties most days. The wind seems like it is colder than the temperature, but I guess that is because it has been blowing so hard. The last few nights have been cooler and even in the thirties a night or two in places, I guess this is blackberry winter since they are blooming. I hope this is the last winter but think there is one more don’t remember what it is called. The days have been relatively nice except for some thunder showers and rain, but rain is necessary for earth to flourish. According to the history of our area there should be at least one winter left, the blackberry. There may be others, but I do not know the names of them. We have had some nice weather this past week except for rain almost every day and some nights. The wind has really been blowing and downing some trees and lots of limbs and twigs around the area. Turkey season is here, and many are getting their trophies. There have been lots of turkeys seen around the area. We went from spring early last week to winter again the latter part of the week and weekend and Sunday brought warmer temperatures after a cool morning. This week promises thundershowers and rain for the first three days and then warmer temperatures and dry. This will be good for the gardeners and farmers. The weather is slowly moving to summer temperatures, with them being in the seventies for several days. We have had some rain, and it seems to have brought the dogwood and red bud trees into full bloom. The woods along the roads are very pretty and so many colors as the blue bells and the smaller violets are blooming along the creek banks. The farmers are beginning to get their garden plots ready for planting and I am sure that some have already planted some things. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the...
Has been very windy days for the last couple of weeks and sometimes it is really cold or should I say cool. We had some rain a couple of days, and this has hindered some from doing garden work and maybe save their efforts for we have also had some frost with temperatures in the upper twenties. The dogwoods and red buds are blooming so maybe it won’t be long till we do not have these cool and cold nights. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Joyce Barnes, Colene Beasley, Linda B...
A couple of nights with early spring temperatures, nights in the thirties and days in the forties and low fifties. This could be dogwood and red bud winter as they are both blooming around the woods in the area. Maybe it will warm up in a few days and we can enjoy the warm days and nights of spring again. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Joyce Barnes, Colene Beasley, Linda Butler, Elizabeth Boggs, Gertie Carroll, Spencer Clark, Robert and Pat Dickson, Paula Dyer, Polly...
The weather has been very much like last week except we did not have thunderstorms but some rain and so much so that many of the ball teams have been having problems getting to practice. The woods and roadsides are really pretty with all the flowering trees and shrubs along the way and although the buttercups have stopped blooming the daffodils are getting pretty. There will be more beauty along the roads when the bluebells bloom, they are so pretty. The last couple of nights have been in the upper twenties and low thirties but is supposed to b...
High winds for several days and some thunderstorms and rain and this week will be the same if the weather predictions are correct. The temperatures have been really mild and even the nights have not been too cool. The trees and shrubs that bloom in the spring are beginning to bloom and guess it won’t be long till the red bud blooms, although their blooms are purple not red. The buttercups which have been really pretty everywhere you see them are beginning to lose their blooms and the daffodils are getting ready to bloom. It looks like spring is...
Other than a thunderstorm with lightning and thunder and some hard rain, the weather has been nice except for the wind which has been pretty high most days and you can forget keeping your hair in place. The nights were mostly in the upper thirties and forties and that is really good. We had a unexpected snow this week and some say that if there is a thunderstorm in February there will be snow within three days, well it happened this time but we have had some more thunderstorms with lightening and heavy rain so maybe this will prove wrong for I am ready for the snow to be over with and the warmer temperatures we had for a few days last week to stay around. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Joyce Barnes, Colene Beasley, Linda Butler, Gertie Carroll,...
This past week we have had a lot of rain, mostly as scattered showers but with some thundershowers included and heavy rain. The creeks have even been up but not out of the banks at least not in this area. The temperatures have been moderate for this time of year with daytime being in the upper fifties and up to mid sixties and nights in the forties and fifties. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Joyce Barnes, Colene Beasley, Linda Butler, Gertie Carroll, Spencer Clark, Robert...
The weather this past week has been really warm for this time of year with temperatures reaching seventy a day or two and in the upper sixties three- or four-days with sunshine most days. I for one will not complain for I enjoyed the warmer temperatures even though the days sometimes brought scattered showers, even the nights were in the forties which is great after the minus zero temperatures a few weeks ago. You hear many talk about the groundhog seeing or not seeing his shadow but I never have understood how a groundhog in the northern...
The past week was much better than the last one although we had lots of rain, some hard and with thunderstorms and other just showers along off and on some days. I am just glad that the snow and ice are gone and people can return to a more normal life with children in school, people able to get to work and some sunshine during the days with warmer temperatures. Would like to thank Doug Johnston who came and took the girls four-wheeler riding and some sled riding while the snow was on the ground, they had a great time even if it was cold. Those...
I guess everyone has something to say about the weather this past week. On Sunday afternoon around 4:30pm it began to snow and by the time we got out of church and home the roads were white and our back road was completely covered. By Monday afternoon there was over five inches of snow on the ground and even the main highways were treacherous and even those with four-wheel drives found it hard to get around. There was more snow and some sleet on top of that and the days the sun did shine much what melted only froze back during the night making...
Talking about Tennessee weather this past week has really been in sync with it reputation. We had days where the temperatures were in the upper fifties for a day and then thundershowers for two or three days with high winds. No damage that I know of except trees and limbs down all over everywhere. Then on Sunday the temperatures began with the twenties but by evening it was dropping and by 4:30 it had begun to snow and by the time we got our of church a little before six it was white and temperatures had dropped to 23 degrees. We made it home w...
We have had some unusual weather for the first week in January 2024, it has been anywhere from the teens to the forties at night and fifties to thirties in the day time and with some rain heavy at times during the night and days. I guess we have missed some snow for they had chances a couple of days and nights and some said they saw some falling but most did not see it. I for one am glad it did not lay and hopefully we will not have much this winter. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kas...
A new year begins with the nighttime temperatures in the low thirties, cloudy and windy. We are blessed to be able to arise from our beds and go about our lives each day for there are many who cannot. May you be blessed as we begin this year and always be thoughtful of those around us who may have problems in their lives. Another week with winter nights and fall days with temperatures at night in the low twenties and teens and days up in the fifties some days. There have been some showers this past week with rain in the night and even in the days sometimes, there was lots of rain on Saturday and again on Sunday afternoon and evening on into the morning and during the day Christmas Day but the temperature was in the upper fifties and sixties during day but there was some sunshine in the afternoon. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing...
There have been several small showers during the past week and rain we still need for we had a dry late summer and fall. The days have been in the fifties and sixties for the most part and nights in the mid to low thirties. If the predictions for this week manifest it will be cool in the daytime and in the low twenties and teens during the night. I do not like this cold weather; it seems the cold wind just blows right through me. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Jerry...
e terrible weather with thunder, lightning, hail and lots of heavy rain, it rained so hard you could barely see the lines on the road and so much water that one had to be careful that it did not cover the windshield and completely destroy the view of the road. We made it home safely and are very thankful for that. There was some tornado damage in some parts of the state and even several deaths as a result.
