We have been having good weather for the farmers cutting and baling hay, it has been dry and hot most days and the nights have been in the sixties which is good ball game weather. There is lots of ball games going on with practice for Allstars and awards ceremonies for all the Dixie league ball teams. This is a great program for all young boys and girls who love softball or baseball, and soccer also gives them things to do. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Joyce Barnes, Kenley Bates, Co...

We are still having showers in the form of thunderstorms during the week and weekend, but the weather overall has still been like summer and the temperatures have been in the eighties and at night in the sixties. I for one am enjoying this weather and hopefully it will stay around for a while. Even though we have had lots of rain it really seems like summer now with the temperatures during the day being in the eighties. Especially the children have gone from saying I am cold to saying it is so hot, I am sweating. I guess they will be sweating before summer is over. I for one am glad of the warmer temperatures. Another thunderstorm last night brought lots of rain, the creeks were up and ditches washed clean. We have had a couple of days with temperatures in the low eighties and nights in the sixties so this is more like summer so maybe it will not be cold again. I don’t know what this weather is that we are now experiencing but wish it would soon warm up some, the nights have been in the upper thirties and days in the fifties and sixties. I am tired of the cold weather and you never know how to dress for it can be in the thirties when you need to go somewhere and then warm up to where a light jacket or sweater will work. I guess the only solution is to carry extra with you and then make sure you have a umbrella with you also. Sunday was really odd for it was cool but sunny and then it would sprinkle s...

It is a noted fact that we have some cool spells which some call dogwood winter, blackberry winter and other winters but I wonder what this one is called. It was 35 degrees at my house about six am and know some other places in the area it was probably colder but maybe it will not be harmful to the plants which many already have in the gardens and even the fl owers and shrubs which are blooming along with other things that are showing eff orts of what summer promises. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the...

By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer We are still enjoying warm weather and not too much rain and not any of the damaging winds that have plagued the area. The days have even been up in the high seventies and occasionally the low eighties, but this is surely to change as it goes from week to week. The flowers and trees are really showing out with all the beauty of the spring, and it is such a welcome sight. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Joyce Barnes, Larry Bates, Colene Beasley, Eliza...

Thankful that there were not any bad storms this past week as had been in the past weeks in the area and in other counties and states as well. The nights are from cool to cold, but the days have been nice and even on Sunday it was warm enough to sit outside and watch the children as they hunted eggs and played around the yard. On Saturday the young people had an egg hunt and made their own little pizzas, but it was raining so we hunted eggs inside, but no one seemed to mind. The children had fun and that is what parties are for and we remember...

By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer We have been having many thunderstorms in the area and this past Friday night there was lots of damage in the Lewis County area and some homes destroyed, I do not know all of them but my niece, Amanda and husband Jake Odom lost their home, but she said material things could be replaced and she was just thankful that they were safe. There was other damage in the Grinder’s Creek area where they lived but I do not know the names of those affected. Prayers for all of them and although they are calling for more st...

By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer Well as is the custom with Tennessee weather we have had thunderstorms, hard rain, lightening, cold nights and some warm days and also some high winds, but thank God we escaped the damaging winds and storms like they had in Mississippi and even in some areas of middle Tennessee. There may have been storms in other areas but do not know for sure. We had a great weekend with days warm enough that you could go outside in shirt sleeves and be comfortable. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing...

By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer Well ol’man winter has taken another shot and this one was really cold, on Monday morning it was eighteen degrees at my house and in other areas it was even lower than that. The weather people say that the next few days will be somewhat warmer so let us hope they are right for on Sunday it did not get above thirty-eight all day at least where I was. I hope the fruit trees didn’t get hurt but there was a heavy frost so who can say. Let us hope that with today being the beginning of spring we will have lot...

By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer Just when you think it is going to be like spring the temperatures dip into the thirties and was not above forty-six all day even with the sun shining. I guess we will wait a little longer for it to warm up and be nice during the day for the next several days is supposed to be cold and down below freezing during the nights. Even though it is like this the trees and shrubs along the roads and in the woods is blooming, such colors as purple which is what the red bud shows to me, and the white of the dogwoods wh...

    Dorothy Warf|Mar 9, 2023

By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer You have heard the song “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”, well here is a new one, “Its beginning to look a lot like Spring”. I even heard a whip-o-will the other night, so according to the older generation which I am a member of it is spring, I hope this is right, for the animals seem to think so, as I said last week the birds are singing and the trees and shrub in yards and woods are beginning to bloom with all their splendor. I know there are many like myself who will be glad for I am tired...

By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer Many of the animals and birds seem to think it is springtime, I hope they are right but sometimes seem that the temperatures in Tennessee confuse animals and people, last week we had two days with temperatures in the upper seventies and low eighties but then days when it was not above forty-eight all day long. The frogs have been singing some in the evening and even the birds sing in the morning like it is spring. Some of the dedicated gardeners have gotten plots ready for planting. The fruit trees and many...

By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer There seem to be lots of signs of spring arriving but the temperatures at times do not agree. I saw some robins on Saturday and there are lots of other birds that are usually not back in the area till it is warmer already here and some of the shrubs and bushes that bloom early are beginning to bud. I hope these are all good signs and that it will soon be warmer even in the evening. By Dorothy Warf Contributing Writer Still having lots of rain showers in the area and we should never complain about the rain because it will surely be dry someday. Our temperatures have been like usual for the winter months days in the fifties and sixties for most part and the nights twenties or thirties and some days it did not even get above fifty. Someone said the other day that many say if you want to experience all four seasons of weather just come to Tennessee and spend a few days, well we have all heard that, but it is about the truth....

By Dorothy Warf, Contributing Writer Certainly has been winter weather with temperatures during the day not getting out of the fifties and sometimes the forties with the nights being in the thirties or less. The buttercups have really begin to bloom and it seems to be very early for them to be really pretty but who can tell. We have had lots of rain and even days when it is supposed to be dry there has been showers or at least sprinkles off and on during the day and night. Maybe we can have some days that the sun shines and the temperature is i...

By Dorothy Warf, Contributing Writer Our weather has truly been what one expects in Tennessee, temperatures at night in the low twenties and in the day up in the fifties which is somewhat normal for this area but mixed in with all this there has been hail and snow mixed with sleet. So far we have had no accumulation of snow for which I am happy. Hopefully where you are the weather has been somewhat more calm and mellow. By Dorothy Warf, Contributing Writer Last Wednesday around midnight many in the area were awaken by terrible noise as hail was falling and it really was loud especially on tin roofs and there was thunder and lightening with heavy rain. I was afraid a tornado would follow all this. The temperature also rose during the night which is unusual. We have had cool temperatures in the day and cold at night in the upper twenties. Hopefully there was not any damage from the hail in your area. My buttercups are up and I fear that they are way too early,...

By Dorothy Warf, Contributing Writer This week has been an excellent weather week, the days were in the sixties and even the low seventies and the nights in the forties and fifties. I could get used to this. Hopefully we will not have any more of the temperatures in the minus numbers. We had some showers off and on during the past week but not any creek raising rains. Children being out of school have enjoyed being able to get outside and not have to be bundled up like a mummy. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities...

By Dorothy Warf, Contributing Writer We have had a taste of what may be in store for us in the coming months and I hope it is wrong and will not be this bad. The temperatures have dipped into the low teens on several occasions during the last week or so. Despite the cold morning temperatures there is still beauty in the sights along the road as icicles can be frozen up the weeds along the road and especially around the creek, they are really pretty and then when the frost is on the trees and shrubs and the sun comes up they sparkle like...

With Thanksgiving behind us and practically only one month till the new year we have had many days of winter weather already and it is not something that I wish for anymore, but we may be in for a hard winter. The signs that the older people and Almac’s give to support a hard winter are very much visual this year. We have already had several days with temperatures in the teens and low twenties which is not good for the electric bill. We have also had some light showers and rain at times during the last few days. Those I know of who are sick e...

By Dorothy Warf, Contributing Writer I guess ol’man Winter has finally made the appearance we were all dreading, temperatures have dipped into the low twenties in some areas and probably has caused some water problems for those who the winterizing has not been done to the outside area. I really was not ready for this and especially the drastic change in the temperature. Hopefully this has not had an adverse effect on you and your family. Cars and other modes of transportation also have to be winterized so if you have not done please attend t...
