  • One Day At A Time

    Evelyn 'E.T.' Trevathan, Contributing Writer|Feb 11, 2021

Well, it’s a cold wintry morning. I have my hot coffee and a good warm fire going. The house is so comfortable. The cats are snuggled back in their bed on the porch for a long winter cat nap. And I’m watching for the snow. I guess we all still have that little kid in us that wants a big snow. I love to see it snow. There are a lot of birds in the yard. I also see a couple of deer and even a few squirrels. They are all eating together peacefully, nobody is arguing, fussing or fighting. Just quiet and content eating together. Who said animals are...

  • Gordonsburg/Little Swan News

    Dorothy Warf|Feb 11, 2021

The weather has taken us back to winter with temperatures even during the day not above the mid thirties. Although the early spring flowers are blooming or at least budding, there was a little snow in areas where the cold or wind dried the leaves on Sunday morning following the rains on Saturday night and was cold all day. Hope you stay warm and...

    Feb 11, 2021

February 08, 1951 The Lewis County Herald reported a number of news items related to the cleanup and repair work caused by the snow and ice storm of 1951. Repair work started on the phone system: “The telephone system was probably more nearly wrecked than was our lighting system with all but a few phones being put out of service as the lines broke under the heavy load of ice.” Only one fire occurred during the blackout: “Hohenwald was unusually fortunate in not have any fires break out during the time the water supply was shut off last week....

  • Tyrades! Valentine Dilemma: "Baby," You're Not the Greatest!

    Danny Tyree|Feb 11, 2021

Although the bar has been set remarkably low during some epochs (“Dearest, you’ve survived to produce seven more viable male heirs than my second wife”), society has always expected couples to use terms of endearment to grease the wheels of their relationships. I have it on good authority that the custom goes all the way back to Adam and Eve (or as he affectionately referred to her, “McRib”). Of course, the sweet nothings were probably muttered through gritted teeth when Adam asked questions...
