  • Letter to the Editor: John Baker

    Feb 25, 2021

Dear Editor, The United States is not a Democracy, it is a Republic. When asked what kind of country we have, Benjamin Franklin said, “A Republic, if you can keep it.” Our Pledge of Allegiance states, “and to the Republic for which it stands.” Most of our federal politicians and ‘bureau-rats’ only have allegiance to themselves and their love of money. Teddy Roosevelt said, “It is absolutely impossible for a Republic long to endure if it becomes either corrupt or cowardly.” The Democrats (Socialists) are corrupt, and the Republicans (Ri...

  • Gordonsburg/Little Swan News

    Dorothy Warf|Feb 25, 2021

Just ended a week of ice and snow and it hung around for a long time. Some of it is still around even after the rain we had last night. It is on the buildings and on the ground, but a lot of it has left and maybe it will be the last one for the season. Many children and others, like some young at heart adults, enjoyed a week of sledding and building snowmen and just enjoying being outside in some of God’s beautiful scenery. Hopefully it was not too hard for you to get around and that you were not confined for too long. It is good to me to be a...

  • Tyrades! What Shall We Say About Grandmothers?

    Feb 25, 2021

Yes, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since February 20, 1971 – but it’s still hard to believe that Granny Tyree (my father’s mother) has been gone for 50 years. Oh, I shouldn’t have been caught off-guard. Perhaps I’ll consult my older cousins when I write my memoir (“The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far from the Tyree”),...
