Hohenwald Police Department Officer Kalum Halfacre engaged his blue lights to make a simple traffic stop at 7:43 p.m. Friday night, March 5, on Lewis Street, and 51 seconds later, the vehicle had lost control, struck two trees and came to rest down a 20 foot embankment across from 821 New Kimmins Road. The Lewis County Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire on Lyell Road Saturday, March 6, at 6 a.m. Upon arrival, firemen found the two story home fully involved with heavy smoke and flames showing. Justin Christman and Destyni Majors were able to escape with only the clothes on their back. Firemen worked for two hours fighting the blaze but were unable to save the structure. We have had some nice days with temperatures most days in the sixties and low seventies but the nights have been cool to cold, dropping into the twenties.
