Thursday night, May 4th, 2023, Hohenwald citizens elected the 2023 City Mayor and Council. Out of approximately 2300 registered city voters, 388 voted. Danny McKnight was re-elected Mayor with 312 votes. Councilmen elected were Chris Trull with 261, Don Barber with 254, Kevin King with 251, and Scottie Bass with 201 votes. The Hohenwald Planning Commission met Monday, May 2nd, to discuss several items of business. A recommendation was made to rezone the lot across from Family Dollar on the corner of Walnut and West Main Street from residential to commercial as the commercial potential in that area continues to expand. Recently, the Tiger and Wolf Cub Scout Dens went on an outing to identify animal paw prints as part of their Backyard Jungle and Call of the Wild belt loops. Almost all of the scouts found the ones common to this area, such as squirrel, cat and raccoon. Many found turkey paw prints and some found skunk and porcupine! The scouts had a wonderful time searching for them, then identifying all of the little prints in the dirt, sand and mud. Well it is a nice morning here in our little valley, it is almost warm enough to sit out on the front porch.
