  • One Day at a Time

    Evelyn 'E.T.' Trevathan, Contributing Writer|Jun 9, 2022

Well it is a beautiful morning here in our little valley. The sun is just coming up over the trees and is shining across the front porch. The cats have had their breakfast and are now giving themselves baths. I have got my coffee and I am sitting here in the front porch swing. I find myself praying more than I ever have, praying for safety whenever we...

June 5, 1952 Ernest “Pop” Rasbury won a monkey on a bet with a hotel manager while he was accompanying Senator Estes Kefauver on the campaign trail in Florida. After Florida Governor Fuller Warren challenged Kefauver to a public debate, Rasbury made the statement that “the governor would not show up” and offered to bet a Florida monkey against a Tennessee racoon that the governor would not be on hand for the meeting. The hotel manager agreed to take Rasbury’s challenge; and when the hour for...

The 112th General Assembly has adjourned for 2022, and it was a very successful year. We have taken measures for Tennessee to be a better place to live, work and to raise a family. I will go over the laws passed this session over the next few weeks. • Tyrades! Are you wild about bookazines?

    Danny Tyree|Jun 9, 2022

Did you get your copy of “Queen Elizabeth II: Reign in Pictures” in time for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee ceremonies? As a bookazine fanatic, I certainly did. Beg pardon? What’s a bookazine, you ask? (I promise I am merely making educated guesses about your inquiries. I do not have the ability to read your mind. And neither does that new co-worker you’ve been undressing with your eyes. But I digress.) Bookazines combine the permanence of a book with the vivid images, pithy text and exciting la...

  • Letter to the Editor; The Ineptitude of the Bureaucracy

    Jun 9, 2022

Companies that have managed to sustain progress don’t fly headlong into these decisions lightly. They spend time and resources to vet their prospects, hoping to continue their longevity. However, when the governmental elites deem it necessary that an additional cadre of lackeys is required to relieve the ...

  • Lavender, the Useful Plant

    Jun 9, 2022

How many times do you use the phrase "stop and smell the roses"? This sentiment also applies to many plants and especially to lavender. One of my favorite places in the University of Tennessee Gardens, Knoxville, is the Herb Spiral. Not only is the spiral a wonderful display of herbs, but it also features beautiful lavender growing among its rocks. The particular plant is Spanish lavender (Lavandula stoechas). With its "bunny ears" appearance, just looking at it makes you smile because it looks...

Registration for summer reading is still open at lewislibrary.readsquared.com. Good Ship Lewis Launch Day was funded by the Pilot Club of Hohenwald. Thank you...
