The Tennessee High School Rodeo Association held their state finals on June 9, 10 and 11 at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. Each contestant competed in three rounds of rodeo. Contestants were not only trying to win a state title, but also trying to qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo in Wyoming. Twenty-seven year old Michael Bates, son of Kenneth Bates, was diagnosed with Abdominal Sarcoma. He was the only one working, as his wife, Kim, is seven months pregnant and keeps their young child as well. A 911 call went out at 1:40 p.m. on July 3, 2023, to a fall at Fall Hollow Falls on the Natchez Trace Parkway. Responding to the call were Lewis County Fire and Rescue, Lewis County Sheriff's Deputies, Maury Regional EMS, along with the Natchez Trace Park Rangers. Peter Miller was born on July 7, 1936 to Ezra E. Miller and Ana Stutzman in Holmes County Ohio. He grew up in a family of nine, with two brothers and four sisters. He moved to the Ethridge area in March of 1964, relocating later to Hohenwald. Peter enjoyed walking, good food, electricity in general and attending the Hohenwald Seventh-Day Adventist Church next to the Food Bank. Lewis County’s High Forest Humane Society will be at the Spring Hill PetSmart this Saturday, July 16 from 11:00 – 3:00 with dogs ready for adoption. This week is PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week, and the Humane Society is hopeful to be able to find lots of new homes for dogs in need on Saturday. I am very grateful to Lewis County for mowing along the sides of our roads rather than spraying poison to kill the roadside plants.
