Well it was a nice morning this morning here in our little valley, 68 degrees, but it sure has warmed up now and it is going to get hotter over the next few days. Just a normal summertime here in Lewis County. You know when we were growing up, we didn’t think much about the heat. We played under the shade tree and after dinner we would take a nap on a pallet on the front porch. Our dinner most of the time was boiled potatoes over cornbread with an onion. Back then houses were built to be cooled by the breeze, and our bed was by a window and a c...

  • Gordonsburg/ Little Swan News

    Dorothy Warf|Jul 29, 2021

We just finished a week of extreme temperatures and, according to the weather predictions, it will be another week of the same unless we have some rain showers to cool it off some. The temperatures have been in the upper eighties and low nineties for the past several days and the humidity has made it really seem hotter and is not good for those who have breathing problems. Maybe we will get some rain this week to cool it off a little. Those that I know of that are sick at home, in the hospital or nursing homes are: G.Y. Bennett, Connie Bonner,...

  • Tyrades! Family portraits: do you love them or dread them?

    Danny Tyree|Jul 29, 2021

My family took the easy way out -- again. We had our annual chance at a professional portrait and decided to let (insist) son Gideon pose solo for the umpteenth time. Oh, we’ve had three-person portraits before and every once in a great while, I get an updated “mug shot” for this column (amazing how editors can crop out the spear and the wooly mammoth!), but this year we wound up pinning all our hopes on Gideon once more. My wife and I always pledge to do better next time, but we have an unfor...
