Leo was the grandson of Peter John and Barbara Deuker Amacher who traveled by covered wagon from Collinsville, Illinois to Hohenwald arriving in August 1895, a trip of some twenty days.     The Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) is accepting grant proposals for projects that will help improve water quality by reducing nonpoint source (NPS) pollution in the state. “This conservation funding will directly benefit water quality,” Commissioner Charlie Hatcher, D.V.M. said. “Initiatives that reduce pollutants in Tennessee’s natural water resources help the environment and sustain human and wildlife health.     It was reported in the 09/28/23 Herald edition that a Opioid Abatement committee was formed. This, however, did not occur. No commissioners sponsored that resolution because the state offered to serve as Lewis County’s committee, thus no committee needed to be formed.     The 16th Annual Natchez Cup was held at Hohenwald Municipal Golf Course on September 30th and October 1st. This tradition was started by Lewis County and Lawrenceburg’s top golfers. The team consists of each golf courses top six senior golfers and top 12 non-senior golfers for a total of 18 golfers. Each year, the golfers battle in a Ryder Cup style format.     The Lewis County Historical Society met on October 2nd and although there were not many in attendance, those who came enjoyed the meeting as we shared some things about our past and things we enjoyed doing.     Residents across the Tennessee Valley will see higher energy charges beginning October 1, 2023. For Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative members, the increase is a result of changes made by the Tennessee Valley Authority and the cooperative.
