A costume contest was held during the Oktober Heritage Festival the past weekend. The contest was judged by Burgermeister Jeanette Shanes and Janet Turner. Winners were announced at the opening ceremonies and were presented a monetary prize by Chamber of Commerce Director Debbie Landers. A large number of residents walked in the Oktober Heritage Festival Parade held on October 8th. This Volksmarche (German for people's walk) honored all residents and their unique family heritage with special signage carried in the parade and placed on display at the festival stage for Opening Ceremony activities....
Terry Warren's inspiring message continued from the wonderful keynote speech at the Opening Ceremony over to the library with a thought-provoking presentation at his book signing. Terry donated proceeds from his book sale, in the amount of $135, to the library's expansion campaign. Friends of the Library has copies of his book, "The Art of Choice: Making Changes that Count in Work and Life" available at the library for anyone who was unable to attend the event....
Dauntless Archery Tag offically had their ribbon cutting at the Oktober Heritage Festival over this past weekend. Owners John and Cindy Davenport brought this new activity to the festival this year and it was a hit. On Saturday, October 16, 2021 the local Elks Lodge plans to hold a fish fry starting at 12 noon. Proceeds from the event will go to the Tennessee Elks Nursing and Trade scholarships in our community along with other local community benefit programs. A Commodity Food Distribution for Lewis County residents is planned for October 27, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon at Memorial Park. The distribution will be drive through and participants are to remain in their vehicles and South Central Human Resource Agency staff will get the required information needed.
