When Tennessee ushered in our current fiscal year on July 1, 2023, a slew of new Tennessee laws passed by the General Assembly went into effect. I was proud to pass new laws to care for children by improving adoption and foster care services, as well as strengthening resources to the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) and the Wilder Youth Development Center in Fayette County. A new law went into effect this year to protect prospective adoptive parents and expectant parents from illegal a...
“Are ya haaawngry?” In the 90s, that question by the late Harold Rowland became a running gag after church every Sunday, as he inquired where I, my wife and my parents would be eating. In the future, many people may answer “Are ya haaawngry?” with a shrug and a muffled “Meh.” Investors and food-industry executives are grinding their teeth over anti-diabetic drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy. The drugs are being used off-label for weight loss and appetite suppression, and so far they seem to be...

One element most often overlooked in home design, yet undeniably significant, is the mailbox. It stands as the first impression, greeting us and our guests as we approach the driveway. This humble servant entrusted with our most vital correspondence, is visited nearly every day, sometimes barely held together by little more than plastic, wood, and nails. The question arises: can we elevate our mailbox to a piece of functional art that leaves a striking impression daily and seasonally? While my focus primarily leans toward free-standing...

Well it is a beautiful Fall morning here in our little valley, the sun is shining and the birds are singing. The trees are getting more and more Fall colors to them and they are getting prettier every day. I took my hot coffee and blanket and went out to the porch but it was a little too cool, so I came back inside. The cats were really hungry this morning, they have now ate and they are laying curled up in the warm sunshine. Everything is quiet and peaceful, but there is a lot of trouble outside of our quiet and peaceful little valley, but you...
The weekend was not what most wanted the weather to be as it turned out to be a rainy cold day and night. Even Sunday was not very warm although once during the day, I saw the sun shine but was still very cool even to feeling cold to me. Most of the October Fest events were completed before it got so cool and even before the rain on Sunday. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Joyce Barnes, Colene Beasley, Lynn Brown, Gertie Carroll, Spencer Clark, Robert and Pat Dickson, Bobby...
