  • Three Little Words

    Oct 24, 2024

Kaylee’s parents were opposites in many ways, but the one thing she noticed the most was their differences in how they expressed their love for her and her siblings. Their mother hugged them all the time, and always said, “I love you” when they left or came home. But their dad never hugged them nor said those words. Sometimes Kaylee wondered if her father did love her. That was especially true when she was young. Her dad would take her to a special activity at school, or pick her up from one, and she would expect him to say it, but he never...

  • Surrealism and Halloween: A Perfect Match of Imagination and Fear

    Elissa Tracy|Oct 24, 2024

“A mask tells us more than a face” -OSCAR WILDE Surrealism, an art movement born in the early 20th century, sought to unlock the power of the unconscious mind, blending dreamscapes with reality in ways that often disturbed, confused, and enchanted audiences. Danny Tyree|Oct 24, 2024

According to the National Retail Federation (motto: “Proudly middlemansplaining since 1911”), Americans set a Halloween spending record of $12.2 billion in 2023. (And that didn’t even include earplugs for muffling the seasonal onslaught of “spooktacular,” “boo-tiful,” “to die for” and other undead “dad jokes” shambling in from Father’s Day.) But, citing research from Lending Tree, “Newsweek” magazine says 59 percent of Halloween spenders plan to scale back purchases this year because of tighte...

  • ONE DAY AT A TIME

    Evelyn 'E.T.' Trevathan|Oct 24, 2024

Well it is a cold and frosty morning here in our little valley. We had just a little heat on this morning, but we have not built a fire in the old wood heating stove yet. It has been chilly in the mornings and we have had a few big frost, but as soon as the sun comes up it starts warming up. Soon the leaves will really change colors and start falling off the trees, right now they already getting some pretty colors to them. The cats are always extra hungry on these cold mornings. When it is cold out they get a little bowl of warm milk, they real...

    Dorothy Warf|Oct 24, 2024

We are in the fall season of the year, and it shows everywhere you look, the leaves are falling at a very fast rate and the trees that shed will soon be bare. A time of year that many do not like because it is the death of many plants and green scenery. My mother never liked fall she said it made her sad to see all the beauty of the earth so drab. I guess we could look at it that way, I like to think of it as a resting time for the earth to begin in Spring to create a new and beautiful world as God created it. The temperatures have been in the...
