    Evelyn 'E.T.' Trevathan|Nov 14, 2024

Well it is a cool and cloudy Fall morning here in our little valley, but it sure looks and feels like an early Winter’s morning. Bob has finished washing the breakfast dishes and is now enjoying his cup of hot coffee. Coffee just seems to taste better on cool mornings like this. This morning the cats were ready for their breakfast and a bowl of warm milk. They ate in a hurry and now they have snuggled back into their warm beds. We have been real busy this week, we have been getting ready to put up Christmas trees. The first thing we always d...

  • A Real Patriot

    Daris Howard|Nov 14, 2024

A good friend of mine, Blaine, was a World War II veteran. He was one of the most patriotic men I knew, even if he had many reasons not to be. As a young man, Blaine, like many others his age, found himself embroiled in the bitterness of war. After the invasion at Normandy, he was part of the army fighting across Europe toward Germany. The German army had been falling back, but as the Allied armies came closer to Berlin, the Germans dug in. The bombardment from both sides went on for days. Blaine’s unit was right at the front, and when the s...

  • Town Barns

    Chuck Stanley|Nov 14, 2024

Few remain. Many have collapsed under the weight of their own frailty. Still others have been removed for outliving their usefulness or esthetic value. Town Barns we're talking about here...(or are we?) Because society's infrastructure has encroached upon them, they are no longer esteemed as their iconic rural counterparts, which adorn calenders and invite passers-by to admire and even stop to do a "photo-op." No, these centenarians receive only the occasional furtive glance with no thought of...

Those I know which are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Colene Beasley, Linda Butler, Elizabeth Boggs, Nina Cottrel, Gertie Carroll, Pam James Carroll, Spencer Clark, Nita C...
