  • Life As Art

    Elissa Tracy|Apr 4, 2024

Springtime Through Monet’s Eyes As the year progresses past the shorter days folding into longer ones, the Tennessee countryside begins its gradual shift towards spring, blooming with early flashes of color. Artist Claude Monet, a name that resonates deeply with the vibrancy of spring, emerges as a fitting emblem for this seasonal transformation. Monet (1840-1926) stands at the forefront of French Impressionism, distinguished for capturing nature’s beautiful moments with a brush dipped in the luminous palette of spring. Throughout his long car...

Well it is a beautiful morning here in our little valley. It was cool here but we did not have any frost, there for a few mornings we did have a little frost on the roofs. We can still have some very cool mornings and a little frost, but after April 15th it should be warm until Fall. The cats were up and waiting for their breakfast. When it is really cold or storming they do not want to get up early. But today the sun is shining and the birds are singing, so the cats were up and ready for their day. • Life as Art; The Art of Bunnies: A Whimsical Tale

    Elissa Tracy|Mar 28, 2024

March, named after Mars, the Roman God of War, carries the vibrant energy of transformation. The expression “Mad as a March Hare,” originating in the 1500s, reflects the excitable behavior of hares, akin yet distinct from rabbits, during this springtime period. Lewis Carroll immortalized the March Hare in “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” (1865), presenting a character brimming with whimsy. Yet, for many, March heralds a season of celebration, a welcome shift to brighter days and vibrant colors in nature. This month ushers in handful o...

Bob is washing the breakfast dishes and he will soon have my kitchen spotless. It sure is nice to have a good dishwasher, I think I will keep him. We have had another busy week. We did some more...

Bob has got the breakfast dishes done... Full story

  • Pup Spotlight: Ducky

    Mar 21, 2024

Hi I'm Ducky! I'm as sweet and lovable as they come but I do need a special person to adopt me. I came to the shelter right after my puppies were taken from me. Since then I've only been good around younger dogs. I'm very protective of them and will growl and bark at other dogs. THAT has gotten me into a couple of skirmishes and I've been the one hurt. You could say I act like I'm tough but I'm "all bark". I will do best in a home where I'm the only dog and I have my own person to take care of....

    Danny Tyree|Mar 21, 2024

Well, THOSE eagerly anticipated revelations certainly crashed and burned. You may recall that last summer a former intelligence officer told Congress that Uncle Sam maintains a covert stockpile of downed alien spacecraft and corpses. (“Doesn’t he look unnatural?”) But now a wide-ranging report by the Defense Department’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) declares there is zero reasonable evidence of a secret program to recover dead extraterrestrials and reverse-engineer their technol...

  • Tyrades! Am I Overthinking Slang?

    Danny Tyree|Mar 7, 2024

As a writer, I can’t deny harboring an appreciation for the richness of slang, metaphors, similes and colloquialisms. And yet…there’s something not quite rational about the agitators who force our language to evolve. (“Come on, participle! Crawl up on dry land! That gerund is beating you!”) There is an undisputed utility to manufactured terms such as “gerrymander,” “carpetbagger” and “flyover country”; but other linguistic innovations have been more frivolous. (Society’s onetime fascination wit...
