  • Are you obsessed with spicy foods?

    Danny Tyree|Sep 28, 2023

Hot peppers bring tears to my eyes, but so does a family anecdote from my young adulthood. I was living with my parents and slept during the day because I worked graveyard shift. One day my mother and brother brought home some pork barbecue for lunch. They pounced on the delicacy, chortling because I was missing out. (We’re a quasi-functional family, okay?) They should not have accepted the “hot” version of the sauce. Bypassing “4 alarm,” my mother’s mouth went straight to DEFCON 1. Her tongue...

  • Mastering Canine Portraiture

    Elissa Tracy|Sep 28, 2023

This past week was a difficult one for our family as one of our two beloved Siberian Huskies passed away. She was a red husky with light blue eyes and at 16 years old, she had lived a very robust life. Nevertheless, it’s not an easy thing. My husband requested that I do a portrait of her for him in her memory. Animal paintings are really not my wheelhouse (since I’m more of an Abstract Expressionist painter.) However, I wanted to give this heartfelt endeavor a go. In a previous article, I wrote about the importance of art journals and I rem...

We have been having some much welcome fall weather and it is now fall or autumn whichever you like. The night and early morning temperatures have been in the fifties and low sixties, which is a welcome from the high temperatures we experienced a few weeks ago. The leaves are really falling which means more mowing to cut them up or raking the yards. My patio has large trees next to it so there are leaves on it every day. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Joyce Barnes, Colene...

Before long it will be too cold to sit out here on the porch. In just under three short months it will be Wintertime, cold weather is on the way. We have been getting ready for the coming...

    Amanda Curtis|Sep 21, 2023

Complaints of panhandling, theft and loitering have risen in 2023, and a majority of those are coming from citizens referring to unsheltered, unemployed people walking the streets of Hohenwald. Prior to the recent uptick, the homeless population in this community has stayed almost hidden. Staying on a friend or family member’s couch, living night-to-night at motels and in abandoned buildings around town has been the norm in this circle. However, according to the outcry of many locals, it has b...
