    Elissa Tracy|Feb 1, 2024

Yes! Yes! Yes! It’s almost that time - Valentine’s Day. The card isle is filled with people picking up and putting down cards,(some smiling or furrowed brows) searching for the perfect words to convey love. Before the mad rush for the perfect card and gifts, before the vibrant reds and pinks adorned the aisles, there was St. Valentine. Saint Valentine, officially known as Saint Valentine of Rome, is a third-century Roman saint widely celebrated on February 14 and commonly associated with “courtly love.” Although not much of St. Valenti...

Issues: Culture, Radio “bleeps” when we cuss, but we applaud the naked on screens. Our entertainment culture resembles “clapping seals on pogo-sticks” sporting high-school smiles. Adrenaline rushes leave not a moment of silence nor any sense of shame or humility. How pitiful will our tears be when our “values” show up as moral deficits. Immigration: When border crossing numbers outrun assimilation, criminal activities follow. Enforcement agencies study trends, gathering information regarding where and when the next big attack may occur. Cons...

  • Should students be bribed into attending classes?

    Danny Tyree|Feb 1, 2024

Are truancy officers about to get help in fighting absenteeism? According to the New York Post, the Ohio legislature is considering a bipartisan pilot program that would make cash transfers to select kindergarten and ninth-grade students if they show up a whopping 90 percent of the time. (One of my friends remarked that the $1.5 million project is called a pilot program because it makes as much sense as a beagle flying a WW I Sopwith Camel. But I digress.) Schools have exhausted other methods...

Last time you learned that it is wise to avoid processed foods. Did you make any changes in the foods you regularly eat? An example would be to eat a hard boiled egg instead of white bread toast. Well we have been getting some much needed rain here in our little valley, they are calling for clearer and sunny weather, but I think I heard that they are still calling for a day or two of a little snow, but it still is wintertime. There was a lot of water flowing in our creek and the water was washing all the debris out and there was also water...
