I have commuted daily 18 miles one-way on the 412 Hwy. connection to Columbia every day at 7:30 a.m. and at 4 p.m. since 2017, and I have watched how the traffic has increased to very dangerous levels. When a school bus stops to pick up children, we used to have 3-4 cars backed up. But recently we have over 40 cars impatient to pass. The increase in shift traffic to the new Spring Hill GM associated facilities have been incredible, and many are often running a late schedule and try to pass on very dangerous stretches on the 2-lane portion...

Well it is a cold and cloudy wintry morning here in our little valley. It looks like it could snow but I have not seen any yet. The house is good and warm and I have got a cup of hot coffee and it sure is good. The cats have had their bowl of warm milk, I gave them a plate of warm food and they quickly ate all of it up, they sure were hungry. All the cats have now gone and gotten back into their warm beds. Someone the other day ask me if the cats were spoiled, and I said well maybe a little! It is all Bob’s fault, but I can not say much a...

Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Joyce Barnes, Colene Beasley, Lynn Brown, Linda Butler, Gertie Carroll, Spencer Clark, Robert and Pat Dickson, Jerry Edwa...
Okay, maybe I’m approaching this from a position of privilege. One of my earliest memories is of tagging along to my mother’s former grammar school when she voted. Social Studies was one of my favorite elementary school classes. Mr. Lowry’s junior high Civics class taught us about polling, current events and debate skills. I made straight A’s when I minored in Political Science in college. So I’m a wee bit prejudiced when I applaud the arrival of the book “Restoring the City on a Hill: U.S....

John Edwards, Jr. was due to arrive home by Christmas after having spent the past two years in Europe with the U.S. Armed Forces. The...
Health is your birthright, and it is always present. But you may not always feel as good as you might like. Why? There are two basic reasons. Either you are starving, or you are being poisoned, or most likely both. Starvation refers to not getting enough of the things your body needs to function properly. You may think this means being hungry. But in this country, people usually get plenty of calories, and not enough nutrients. You can also be starving for adequate sunlight, exercise, sleep, and love. Poisoning refers to the things that damage...

This trend gained a lot of traction in 2023 and it still strong for 2024 morphing from once quirky to now tailored and refined in its construction. The roots of quilted jackets run deep, originating from the familial warmth of homemade treasures. Tracing their historical evolution, these cozy textiles have transcended their domestic origins to become coveted fashion items, gracing the racks...

Both Hope Hohenwald, inc., and the Fraternal Order of Police were equal part recipients of the nearly $10,000 raised by generous donors participating in the event. Several businesses in town also donated prizes which were awarded during the pre-ride festivities,...

Between gifts, decorations, family meals and travel, the holiday season is more expensive than ever. A sizable percentage of Americans take on debt to pay for costs associated with the holidays. That includes those on low incomes, for whom it can be much more difficult to get back on firm financial footing afterward. The cost of borrowing money has gotten more expensive as inflation concerns have caused the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. For those with low credit scores, many credit cards are now carrying APRs as high as 25% to 30%....
His check has been signed by the Lewis County School District in Tennessee for forty years, but he works for the kids. Generations of kids know the tall, thin man who always has a smile and encouraging word and who keeps the interior and exterior of their school looking nice as "Rambo", a nickname he earned when he first started working there and was the antithesis of the Sylvester Stallone character. Why does he enjoy being around the kids? Because he understands what it's like to struggle in...

As a self-described agriculture advocate, a state senator says Tennessee leaders need facts on whether there’s a disproportionate number of sick people in the Summertown-Ethridge area and, if so, why. While preparing for a 2 p.m. Jan. 4 public meeting with his constituents in Lawrenceburg, Sen. Page Walley said that, among other things, information from the Summertown-based Citizens for Clean Air, Water and Food provides a reason to ask the state’s Legislative Services Office to draft legislation, or a resolution, requiring several state depart...
