Still having cool nights and warm to hot days so I guess spring is finally here. Before we know it summer will arrive and with it hot days and hot nights. Hopefully you are enjoying the beauty of the spring weather and the pretty trees and shrubs that are blooming everywhere around the area. by Dorothy Warf We have once again had spring like weather with the nights being cool to cold and the days with temperatures close to eighty most days. The children have really enjoyed it as well as the older ones who the cold weather seems to hurt more than it used to. We will have some more cooler weather I am pretty sure because we have not had some of the winters that are expected with the early spring, but maybe it will not be too bad. Those who are sick or shut-in and in need of prayers for whatever the need: Burt Barber, David and Joyce...

It seems once again that spring is here. We had a beautiful Easter weekend with temperatures reaching into the seventies a couple of days, although the wind was cool and even cold at times. The children were able to hunt eggs and play outside with no coats and enjoy the sunny weather. Those who are sick or shut-in and in need of prayers for whatever the need: Burt Barber and family, David and Joyce Barnes, G.Y. Just finished a week with lots of rain and many days of thunderstorms and tornado warnings, but thank the good Lord we didn’t have any in this immediate area. We send prayers for those in the areas where there was damage to personal property and death of loved ones. Saturday was the day that was the worst for thunderstorms. It started early in the morning about 4 a.m. and was off and on most of the day. The water got over the road in many places but on Little Swan from where I live you could not go toward Little Swan Church or to Highway 412 b...

We had a pretty good week weather wise and missed all the bad storms that could have come on Wednesday. We only had thunder and lightening with rain. Prayers for those in Alabama and other places where there was so much damage from tornados. Most days had some rain and was almost impossible to get in ball practices for the little ones, but some did practice in gym and other areas. The season is just getting started as many have games this week. Hopefully it will not be as rainy as last week. Those who are sick or shut-in and in need of prayers...

By Dorothy Warf It seems that spring is here but I am sure that ol’man winter will once again rise up with some cold weather; it is too early for this weather to last. There are some who have started planting stuff in their gardens, guess if it is not planted it will not grow. I for one am ready for this weather to last and more flowers and shrubs to bloom. We have had some showers around the area lately and is forecasted for most of the week. Those who are sick or shut-in and in need of prayers for whatever the need: David and Joyce Barnes, G...

We have had some nice days with temperatures most days in the sixties and low seventies but the nights have been cool to cold, dropping into the twenties. The sun has been really warm most of the time and this allows children to be outside and play with pets and toys instead of caged in the house. The buttercups have just been beautiful around the county as you go along and see them. I was afraid after the snow and ice fell on them they might not be pretty, but mine are really pretty. This coming weekend will be time change. I thought they...

Just ended a week of ice and snow and it hung around for a long time. Some of it is still around even after the rain we had last night. It is on the buildings and on the ground, but a lot of it has left and maybe it will be the last one for the season. Many children and others, like some young at heart adults, enjoyed a week of sledding and building snowmen and just enjoying being outside in some of God’s beautiful scenery. Hopefully it was not too hard for you to get around and that you were not confined for too long. It is good to me to be a...

The weekend and even today and for several days coming it is speculated that there will be extremely cold and treacherous road conditions and weather. Today the roads are covered with ice that looks like snow but mostly is sleet and ice frozen on trees and everything you see. Although it is pretty, it is very hazardous so if you must be out please be extremely careful whether walking or driving. Sunday we went to church but when we left home we didn’t realize that there was black ice all over the roadways that caused my vehicle to slide once o...

The weather has taken us back to winter with temperatures even during the day not above the mid thirties. Although the early spring flowers are blooming or at least budding, there was a little snow in areas where the cold or wind dried the leaves on Sunday morning following the rains on Saturday night and was cold all day. The weather people are calling for extreme cold for this area the last of the week and the next several days; that will really affect the heat bills or the need for more wood to add to the fires. Hope you stay warm and...

Still scattered showers around the area from day to day and most days saw very little sunshine for long periods of the time. There was even some sleet on Saturday and then Sunday late evening. Light snow was sprinkled around on the rooftops and trampolines in the area on Monday, but, even though it was in the low thirties most of the day, the snow left quickly. Hope this does not mean six more weeks of cold snowy weather. My buttercups and tulips are up and some people even have some that have bloomed. Some days the temperatures have been in th...

February 1, 1951 The main headline for the week was “Worst Weather in History Grips County.” A weather system brought sleet, snow, and freezing rain throughout most of the state. Thick ice covered and pulled down many power and phone lines throughout the county, leaving approximately 75 percent of residents without electricity or telephone. In Hohenwald, the local water supply was shut off as there was no power to operate the pump more and the supply in the tank was low. “As we go to press it continued to snow… The mercury was down to 10 earl...

We’ve had lots of rain the last few days, not all at once, but scattered over several days and some was even heavy. Temperatures have not been as cold as it was for several days earlier in this month. I think it is really early but my buttercups are up; they may well get their heads bit by the bitter weather that might come before it is spring. We have had several gloomy days with rain, or at least cloudy most of the day, and that seems to dampen the countenance of some people for sunshine brightens ones feelings, especially for those who a...

We had another surprise snow or at least the weather people did not mention it on the internet. It fell on Saturday morning between 6:00-6:30, but by 9:00 it was all gone except what joined the left over from last week under trees and bushes where the sun did not shine on it very much. It looked like a white-out when I looked out about 6:00. The wind has been really cold and even though the temperatures have been in the forties and fifties, it has been cold, at least to me. When the wind blows cold it seems to go right through you. Those who...

This week began with beautiful snow which didn’t surprise anyone. I think the weather people had predicted it and even schools let out thinking it would come. It was another pretty snow hanging on the trees and fences and other things. Sometimes it can be treacherous like the last one which seemed to slip up on everyone. The roads were bad at the beginning and people had trouble getting home. I hope that you arrived at your destination safely. The children and those young at heart enjoyed it for I saw lots of snowmen and sledding on sleds a...

By Dorothy Warf We are now in the year 2021 and the weather has been seasonal with cool to cold nights and days that sometimes reached into the low seventies. It has been a windy time and even when the temperatures were in the sixties or upper fifties, it seemed colder because the wind was so cold. Hopefully, you had a great beginning to the new year and I, for one, am looking forward to the coming days and months and praying that it will be much better than the majority of 2020 was. Those who are sick or shut-in and in need of prayers for...

Hope your family had a great Christmas and enjoyed time together during the holidays. Children are still enjoying the bounty they received and many are ready to return to school, but they have another week or more of holiday break, or winter break as some call it. As you know, we didn’t get the white Christmas that was predicted a few days before the event. Some were sad, some were glad and I guess all those traveling were glad. I think some that headed to the mountains did see snow and were even on the road during some of it falling. Those w...

I am wishing for a clear night so we can see the beautiful star that no one today has seen. The clouds keep moving in and out and the sun comes and goes, but hope it is clear. We have had some rain and cold temperatures and even some snow flurries and sleet in some areas, but not on the ground. The weather people think we might have a white Christmas. That would be nice, but also dangerous for those who are traveling, so be careful and stay safe. Those who are sick or shut-in and in need of prayers for whatever the need: William Barber, David...

The Christmas parade was held on Tuesday night since it rained last Thursday. It was nice with lots of participants and spectators there. Lewis County Girl Scouts had three entries and enjoyed riding in the trucks. It was longer than usual or at least it seemed that way. The weather during the two days usually celebrated with Thanksgiving was rather mild during the day and cool at night, allowing many to be outside part of the day. Of course it didn’t hinder the hunters who were looking for that big buck. Saturday was cool just about all day and then on Sunday it was cool to cold most of the day with rain starting off in the early evening and continuing through most of the night. Monday was really cold with low thirties early and dropping lower in the mid-morning. Some even reported seeing snow flurries d...

Sunday morning started off with mild temperatures, but by the time church was over, it was raining and windy and was very cool. The rest of the day was about the same with rain and wind. Saturday was very pretty with temperatures in the seventies and upper sixties most of the day and the children enjoyed playing outside with some friends and cousins. The wind was very strong and hard on Sunday. It blew twigs and limbs all over the yards and roadways. Then it turned cold and Sunday night was in the low thirties and plenty of frost was on the ground Monday morning. I guess it is time for this weather as we are in the last weeks of November which says that 2020 is almost over. We can hope and pray that 2021 will be a better year for all of us, especially since many have been affected by the virus and been quarantined either at home, in hospitals or nursing facilities. We pray for all still...

It has been warm during the day lately, like summer, and the nights have even been in the fifties and low sixties. It is weird weather, but I guess that is what we have in Tennessee. What is the saying? “You can have all four seasons in one day.” I guess that is right sometimes. Monday, it couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be sunny or cloudy. I guess we all agree that with the beginning of November, we have reached the drawing to a close of an unprecedented year in our history. With the cooler temperatures at night and even in the day, we can say that fall is in full swing and that winter will soon be here. I, for one, am not looking forward to it. It seems that the older I get, the more the cold weather makes me wish for warmer days and nights. I guess this is true for most of us. Hopefully, we will learn to take what comes and make the most of it for we can’t change the w...

The past several days and nights have been like fall with the day temperatures being in the upper seventies and low eighties and then the nights down in the forties and fifties. I guess, as some have said this past week, it is time for it to be like that. I thought we were not changing the time this year, but now the time is supposed to change on November 1. I guess it will whether we like it or not. It has been so foggy for a few days and nights that it is so damp you would think it was raining. We have had some rain, but not a lot at one...
