Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
Mary Iva Brown went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
She was born on October 31, 1932 in Hohenwald to Urban and Mattie Lou Henderson. She grew up in the Swiss Colony area and was a part of the LCHS Class of 1951. She married Walter Ernest Brown the day after her eighteenth birthday and they were married until he passed away in 2019. Ernest and Mary Iva moved to Florida in 1953. They had four children, Barbara, Michael, Marie and Lola.
Mary Iva was a stay at home mother who raised her children seeing to their daily needs and wants, with plenty of iron skillet cornbread, meat and potatoes cooked with love, always desiring for her children to have a better life than she had growing up. She was a Christian woman and raised her family to attend services every week.
Their family grew and they were blessed with 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She helped care for many of the grandchildren as they grew up and always had family pets to take care of as well.
"Mom and Dad loved to take quick trips back to visit where she grew up to visit family, but she was always anxious to return home. She was proud to be a land owner. She loved country music. She loved to read and certainly missed that as her vision failed in her twilight years. She had a quick wit and could have a sharp tongue for those who crossed her, but she instilled strong moral values in all those she raised and loved," her daughter, Lola Wilson, stated.
"She now has a new body, with clear vision and no pain. We rest in the comfort that she is now with many who went on before her, but we know that none were as happy as Daddy was to have her back with him. She will be sorely missed by all of us who feel her absence daily."
