Maury Regional Medical Center earns ACR accreditation for MRI

Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) has been awarded a three-year term of reaccreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat an array of medical conditions. MRI studies are conducted at MRMC by MRI technologists with results interpreted by board-certified radiologists on the Maury Regional medical staff.

“This continued accreditation from the American College of Radiology assures the public that quality measures are in place at Maury Regional Medical Center that make MRI safe, accurate and reliable,” said Imaging Director Pam Williams.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR practice parameters and technical standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and expert medical physicists. Reviewers assess image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs before sharing their findings with the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

Maury Regional Health’s MRI services, along with other imaging studies, remain uninterrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as imaging studies are being scheduled in such a way to allow for appropriate social distancing and disinfecting.

“Our patients can take comfort in the knowledge that our facilities continue to be cleaned to the same rigorous standards we have always held to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses,” Williams said. “It is important that you do not postpone essential health care services that may have a long-term impact on your health. If you are currently scheduled for an imaging study or are in need of one, we encourage you to speak with your physician.”

In addition to offering MRI at MRMC, the imaging service is also available at Spring Hill Imaging Center, Marshall Medical Center, Lewis Health Center and Wayne Medical Center.
