Paula Dyer seeks 8th District School Board Seat

Paula Dyer has announced she is a candidate for Lewis County School Board, serving the eighth district of Lewis County. She states:

To the Citizens of Lewis County

“My name is Paula Dyer, and I am excited to announce that I am running for the Lewis County Schools Board of Education, district eight seat, in the upcoming August election. Since I am officially beginning my campaign, it is extremely important to me to reach out to those who not only can vote in this district, but to everyone in the community to know who I am and why I want to represent the eighth district on the school board.

“I moved to Hohenwald over 36 years ago when I married Billy Dyer. We have three children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. My community leadership and involvement positions include singing at Veteran’s Day programs, presenting wreath making sessions at Petals and Pearls Mother/Daughter Day, and being an active member of the choir at First Baptist Church.

“After teaching for the past 32 years and serving in many various capacities in the educational field, I know that I have a solid foundation on which to stand for what the future of Lewis County Education needs to look like. As a classroom teacher, I have seen the direct impact of policy decisions which have affected my colleagues, my students and their families. I have always attempted to work with other teachers, faculty, administration, support staff, and my community to support the learning that takes place in my classroom.

“I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Martin Methodist College in Pulaski in 1998, and I graduated with my Master’s degree in 2005. My active endorsement areas include all subject areas for grades K-8 and as a reading specialist for grades K-12. I have served as a cooperating teacher for eight teacher candidates from MTSU, Martin Methodist, and the University of Tennessee at Martin. I have served on textbook selection committees for Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science, as well as the academic data committee for School Improvement for Lewis County Middle School.

“Over the years, I have been honored with different types of recognitions, but some of the most important to me are VFW District Level Teacher of the Year in 2017, Lewis County Herald Teacher of the Week in 2019, and LCMS Teacher of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year.

“Although I am retiring from full-time teaching, it will be my utmost pleasure to continue to serve Lewis County Education as a board member. I assure you that I will have the interests of all Lewis County students and teachers as my priority. I will work hard, fairly, and honestly to the best of my ability to represent my community, my fellow teachers, staff, administration, the other board members, and friends if I am elected to this position. My decisions will support effective teaching and our Lewis County economy. I will listen to you, the voters, and always try to include your voices in my decision making.

“Last, but not least, I would like to thank you for your support in all areas of my life and to thank God for His many blessings. Thank you for your vote and support, Lewis County and district eight residents.”
