Single vehicle accident: Joe Lay

A report of a motor vehicle accident in the 600 block of Hinson Street brought out first responders Thursday night after a heavy rainfall ended just after 8 p.m. Joe Lay, 39, of Hohenwald, was traveling north on Hinson Street in a GMC Sierra pick-up when he dropped off the hill, lost control and went airborne into a tree. Lay was ejected on impact according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Brandon Dixon. Lay had crawled back up onto the roadway before help arrived. Lewis County Sheriff Deputies, Lewis County Fire and Rescue and Maury Regional Emergency Medical assisted at the scene. Lay was given a field sobriety test by Trooper Dixon before being charged with DUI and taken into custody. Taylor's Wrecker Service was called to remove the vehicle.
