Ronnie James, 73, of Hohenwald, passed from this life into glory on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the Maury Regional Medical Center.
He was born on August 15, 1946, on Slippery Creek in Lewis County, to Dewey R. James and Bettye Sisco James. On April 19, 1968, he married the love of his life, Bertha Laxton. They resided in Hohenwald.
Ronnie was one of the most active citizens that has ever lived. He was a Lewis County Commissioner for over 30 years. Once that concluded, he became a member of the Lewis County Election Commission from 2003-2017. Along with those, he was also a member of the Housing Authority Board, the State Forestry Committee, the Railroad Authority, and several other boards and organizations. He was a member of the United States Army and served as a combat engineer. Once he got out of the service, he was a proud and dedicated member of the VFW. He never missed paying his respects at a Lewis County Veteran's funeral. He was a dedicated member of the Slippery Church of Christ.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Randy (Kerri) James, of Hohenwald; a daughter, Diana "Tilda" James, of Franklin; a sister, Sandra James, of Nashville; three grandchildren, Kynzi, Nathan, and Peyton James; and a special friend, Emily Skelton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Mike James.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. in the Edwards Cemetery. Josh White will officiate.
