Pharmacist Justin Griner honored with TSHP Pharmacist of the Year Award

Justin Griner, PharmD, BCPS, of Cordova, was recently recognized by the Tennessee Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP), a Society of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA), as the 2020 Health-System Pharmacist of the Year.

Dr. Griner graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 2013 and then went on to complete a pharmacy practice residency at Methodist University Hospital. Dr. Griner currently serves as an emergency department clinical pharmacist at Regional One Health at Memphis and as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Transitional Science at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Pharmacy.

At the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Dr. Griner has worked with the pharmacy and emergency departments to make significant reductions in opioid use. He has presented lectures and posters at numerous meetings and was published in the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice. Dr. Griner has worked to serve his profession as a member of multiple TPA and TSHP Committees, serving as Co-Chair of the TPA Legislative and Regulatory Committee and Chair of the TSHP Strategic Planning Committee. He also serves as a delegate to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, where he is also a member. In addition, Dr. Griner serves as a faculty advisor for Generation Rx, an organization at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy that focuses on preventing the misuse of prescription medication.

Dr. Griner, his wife, Katie, and their daughter, Elizabeth, live in Cordova, where he is a Bible School teacher at Highland Church in Memphis.

The Health-System Pharmacist of the Year award is presented to a pharmacist who has made significant contributions to the profession of pharmacy and health-system practice. This award recognizes the development and implementation of advanced health-system pharmacy practice programs, research, and/or publications; personal enrichment endeavors through specialized training and advanced degrees; and demonstrated leadership qualities. TPA and TSHP congratulate Dr. Justin Griner for his outstanding work and contributions to patient care and pharmacy practice.
