Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898

Glen Ammons

Glen Everett Ammons, age 96, passed away from this home to his eternal home on Friday, August 7, 2020, exactly one month after the loss of his beloved wife and best friend of 71 years, Bettye Ammons.

He was born on March 25, 1924 in Hohenwald to the late Bill and Esther (Norman) Ammons. He was an Army veteran of World War II, stationed in Alaska. Though he never saw combat, he was extremely proud of his service and proud of his country.

He married the love of his life on October 23, 1948. He worked for the State of Tennessee in a managerial role for the Department of Employment and Security. He and Mrs. Bettye owned and operated the Ben Franklin store for 20 plus years. He was a member of the Lomax Church of Christ where he and his family have been attending for over ten years.

After his retirement, he enjoyed farming, seeing after his cattle and planting a garden. He loved his family and his wife dearly, and now he is walking side-by-side with her once again holding her hand.

Survivors include his son, Lynn Ammons and wife, Jan, of Hohenwald; sister, Mary Helen James (Bob) of Centerville; grandsons, Garrett Ammons (Carlee) of Nashville and Desi Ammons of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Esther Ammons; wife, Bettye Ammons; brothers, Leamon Ammons, Carlos Ammons and Clyde Ammons; sisters, Roberta "Peaches" Grimes, Ruth Grimes, Dorothy Hurt, Alma Warren and Willie McNabb.

Funeral service was conducted on Monday, August 10 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Jeff "Boo" Spears and Malcom George officiating. Intermen followed in the Downey Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund.
