Hattie Lowe

February 1, 1941 - August 18, 2020

Saturday, February 1, 1941, was punctuated by a very blessed event for our family. Our precious Hattie Elizabeth Lowe (also affectionately known as 'Punkin' to her family and 'Little Hattie' to her friends and neighbors, entered this world. She journeyed here for 79 years, six months and quietly and peacefully transitioned to glory on Tuesday morning, August 18, 2020, at 2:30 a.m.

Her beloved mother, Jenny Lowe, passed away when Hattie was very young, her aunts, Hattie M. Lowe and Lillie B. Mitchell and uncle, Frank Mitchell, "stepped up to the plate" as loving family members do, and raised her as their daughter.

She attended elementary school in Lewis County. Her high school years were spent at Clarke Training School Mt. Pleasant, where she graduated in 1959. She always had fond memories of her tenure at Clarke and delighted in sharing those memories with her "Little Sisters." In particular, she enjoyed talking about her exciting times as a majorette in the CTS Tigers Marching Band.

After graduating from high school, she served as a clerk in the Women's Army Corp. (WAC). Looking for better job opportunities, she then moved to Chicago, Illinois where she worked as a legal secretary and attended classes at Robert Morris College. After 25 years in Chicago, she moved back home to Hohenwald.

In her later years, Hattie suffered with many health problems. When these issues became too challenging for her family to manage, she became a resident of Life Care Center of Centerville, from 2017 until her passing.

Hattie was fun loving, kind, always willing to share with those in need. These qualities endeared her to many friends and loved ones, both human and feline. She was 'mama' to many cat babies over the years including Misty, Boo-Boo, Sy, Raisyn and especially her last one, Jennye, who she taught to eat Cheetos from her hand.

She enjoyed fashion, working with flowers and plants, embroidery, and listening to blues, especially B.B. King.

She was predeceased by her mother, Jenny Lowe; father, George Vestal Sr.; aunts, Hattie M. Lowe and Lillie B. Mitchell; uncle, Frank E. Mitchell; seven siblings, Charlene Lowe, James (Johnny) Satterfield, George W. Vestal, Danny Vestal, William Vestal, Mark (Bud) Vestal and Blondell Whitaker.

Left to savor the sweet fragrance of her memory are four siscous (Sisters/Cousins), Lillie, Frankie, Linda and Glenda Mitchell; sisters, Diane (Richard) James, Marva Hudspeth and Wanda Vestal; and a number of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Graveside service was held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 22, 2020 in the Swiss Cemetery.

McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald assisted the family with arrangements.
