Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
No TWRA Hunter Education Classroom Training will be held this fall in Lewis County due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. With this in mind, there are alternatives available for those who need certification. Options available are:
1. Purchase an Apprentice License which exempts the person from Hunter Education Requirements for one year. Must have an adult over 21 hunting with the person who can take control of firearm at all times. Can be obtained anywhere licenses are sold for TWRA. Cost is $11.00.
2. On-Line Hunter Education Course. If over 21, you can complete this course and fill out the Hunter Education Field Day Exemption form and mail it to TWRA Region 2 Office and you will get your certification card mailed to you.
3. For persons under 21, when you complete the online course and test, you will print out the Tennessee Hunter Ed Field Day Qualifier Voucher and then sign up for a Hunter Education Field Day Event. A Field Day Event is being planned for October 3 in Lewis County. Maximum class size will be 25 people.
At the Field Day Event, a few topics will be covered by instructors and then the students must pass a 100 question test. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the shooting requirement has been suspended. Those attending a Field Day event must bring and wear a face mask, bring a number two pencil and water or drinks. This event is a maximum of four hours.
The Field Day Event will go on the TWRA Hunter Education Website about two weeks prior to the event. Sign up early to ensure you get a seat. If you are not able to register due to class being full, call Jimmy Walker at 931-628-5284 and we will look at setting up another event to make sure everyone who needs certification has an opportunity to do so. Cost of Online Course is $29.00.
4. Online Hunter Education Courses can be found on the TWRA website under the Hunter Education Heading.
5. Once the restrictions from the COVID-19 Pandemic are eased we will start holding Hunter Education Classroom Training again as this is the most effective way for certification.
All persons 10 years old and older who were born after January 1, 1969 are required to complete the Hunter Safety class prior to hunting. Do not bring any firearms or ammunition to the Field Day Event. Any questions concerning this event may be directed to Jimmy Walker at (931) 628-5284 or Clint Newton at (615) 856-9741.
