The Lewis County High School Panthers took their undefeated show on the road Friday night, travelling to Region 5AA foe Summertown for a dance with the 3-1 Eagles. The Panthers and Eagles were both ranked in the AP Top 10 for AA, Lewis County #3 and Summertown #9, with the winner taking a position at the top of Region 5AA.
The powerful Panther offense broke the ice in the first quarter when Lincoln Brewer scored on a 3-yard run and carried the ball for the two-point conversion, giving the Panthers an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Eagles found the equalizer in the form of an 87-yard fumble recovery and score by Javen Edmiston and the two-point conversion pass from Colton Shaffer to Edmiston to tie the game at 8 with eight minutes to play in the second quarter.
The Panthers answered in three minutes, when Kael Feichtinger was on the receiving end of a Blake Carroll touchdown pass, a 14-yarder, and Carroll added the PAT to give the Panthers a 15-8 lead going in at halftime. The Panthers marched down the field in the first two minutes of the second half and Ethan McCann ran in from the five for a touchdown, and Carroll again added the point to stretch the lead to 22-8.
Midway through the third quarter the Eagles struck back, as Colten Shaffer scored on an 11-yard run, but the PAT fell no good, and the Panthers lead was 22-14. On the following possession, Ethan McCann rumbled for a 32-yard touchdown run, his second of the game, and Carroll added another point to stake the Panthers to a 29-14 lead moving into the fourth quarter.
Early in the fourth, Lincoln Brewer found the endzone once more, this time from 6 yards out, and Carroll added another PAT to make the score 36-14. Minutes later, it would be Blake Carroll's turn with the ball in hand, as he sprinted in from the 12 and added the point after to give the Panthers a 42-14 lead.
As time was winding down late in the fourth, Summertown's Colton Shaffer found Javen Edmiston again from 17 yards out, and Austin Abbott added the PAT to make the score 42-21, which would be the final.
The Panthers had 375 yards on the ground, led by Blake Carroll with 150 on 15 carries and a touchdown. Ethan McCann had 97 yards on 11 carries with 2 touchdowns, Lincoln Brewer had 66 on 12 with 2 TDs, Ethan Fransen 32 yards on 3, and Sloan Moseley 30 yards on 2. Blake Carroll was 1-1 passing for 14 yards and a touchdown, Bryson James was 1-2 for 11 yards. Kael Feichtinger had 1 reception, a 14-yard touchdown, and Ethan McCann had one reception for 11 yards.
The Panther defense limited the Eagle offense to 205 yards of offense on the night. Kael Feichtinger was in on 17 tackles, had a fumble recovery and a sack, Ethan McCann 10 tackles and a tackle for loss, Lincoln Brewer 7 tackles, Ethan Fransen 6 tackles, Sloan Moseley 5 tackles, Jayden Stewart 4 tackles and a sack, Austin Hicks, Robert Young, Ian Carroll, and Riley Runions each with 4 tackles, Alex Fall and Eli Hankins 3 tackles each, Hunter Smith and Tylan Woodie 2 tackles, and Woodie added a sack, and Blake Carroll and Maddox Kellogg each had a tackle.
The 4-0 Panthers return to Bobby W. Sharp Stadium on Friday night, September 25 for the "Battle of the Brown Jug" as they host the Hickman County Bulldogs.
