Newly appointed Committees and Commissioners

New commissioners were elected to serve on a variety of different boards during the County Commission meeting last Monday, September 21. Below are a list of these new appointments.

Appointment of Committees

Mayor Jonah Keltner recommended that the current three committees be split into two, putting nine people on each committee. He also recommended that the times be moved.

“The Solid Waste Committee is very, very important right now. We have somebody call about two times a week to talk about their Solid Waste Fee. That’s why I’d like to have more than six people on that,” said Mayor Keltner. “Sometimes we have people who can’t make the meetings and we need a qourom to be able to vote.”

Commissioner Hensley made a motion to keep the committees as they were, and Commissioner Peery seconded the motion.

Nine Commissioners voted to keep the committees as is and Commissioners Allison Tanner, Aren Ragsdale, Wendell Kelley and Connie Sharp voted against it. The committees stayed as they were.

Appointment of a Commissioner to the Airport Advisory Board

Newly-elected Commissioner Kyle Bobo was nominated by Commissioner Peery and was seconded by Commissioner Timmie Hinson.

Commissioner Bobo was unanimously appointed to the Airport Advisory Board.

The term will begin on Oct. 1, 2020 and will end on Sept. 30, 2021.

Appointment of a Commissioner to the Conservation/Park Board

Commissioner Tanner nominated Commissioner Ragsdale. Commissioner Ragsdale was unanimously appointed.

Ragsdale’s term will begin on Oct. 1 and will end on Sept. 30, 2022.

Appointment of a Commissioner to the T.C.C.A.

Commissioner Ragsdale nominated to re-appoint Commissioner Austin Carroll to the Tennessee County Commissioner’s Association. All Commissioners voted in favor and Commissioner Carroll was appointed.

The term will begin Oct. 1 of this year and will end Sept. 30, 2021.

Appointment of Commissioners to the UT Ag. Extension Committee

Commissioners Ronnie Brewer, T.J. Hinson and Ragsdale were all unanimously appointed to the UT Extension Lewis County Agricultural Committee.

Their term will begin on January 1, 2021 and will end Dec. 31, 2022.

Appointment of a Commissioner to The Highway Advisory Board

The Commission unanimously re-appointed Commissioner Brian Peery to the Lewis County Highway Advisory Board.

Commissioner Peery’s term will begin Oct. 1 and will end Sept. 30, 2022.

Appoint of a Citizen to the Highway Advisory Board

Mrs. Alice Tubbs was unanimously re-appointed to serve a two year term on the Lewis County Highway Advisory Board.

Her term begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30, 2022.

Appointment of 2 Citizens to the Conservation/Park Board

Citizens Chad Clayton and Brandon Grady were re-appointed unanimously by the Commission to serve a three year term to the Conservation (Park) Board.

Their term will begin Nov. 1 and will end Oct. 31, 2023.

Appointment of Members to the Lewis County Ethics Committee

The Lewis County Board of Commissioners adopted a “Code of Ethics” back in January of 2010, which requires a five member “Ethics Committee” that is responsible for investigating any credible complaint against an official or employee charged with violating the policies outlined in the Lewis County Code of Ethics.

The Commission was set to appoint Commissioner Sharp, Commissioner Robert Brewer, Register of Deeds Cheryl Staggs, and citizens Tom Cook and Ben Floyd.

Commissioner Sharp declined her nomination and Commissioner Billy Dyer was appointed.

Commissioners Kelley and Tanner approved to adopt Commissioner Dyer, and the resolution unanimously passed.
