Local drives three horse carriage in Switzerland

Heinz Autenried, seated right, of Lewis County (Little Swiss Farm) drove a 3 horse omnibus this summer season in Pontresina, Switzerland.

Carriages pulled by 3 horses was invented by the Romans and then adapted by a Russian group called Troika Locals. They called 3 horse carriage driving an art.

Heinz worked for Werner "Wohli" Wohlwend, a native and original of Pontresina, and his wife Gina. They owned and operated a 63 horse ranch with riding and pulling horses. They had 23 carriages and slides.

For over a hundred years people have been transported by horse and carriages for five miles into the Fairytale Valley of Roseg from the Pontresina train station to the Glacier Hotel and Restaurant.

Wohlwend worked close with the Rhaetian Railway, one of just three train lines in the world UNESCO World Heritage.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Wohlwend and Autenried transported approximately 3,500 to 4,500 people through the valley this season.
