Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
Christmas in Hohenwald has become one of Lewis County’s most beloved events. And, for good reason. Traveling out of town to visit Santa, see Christmas light displays, go ice skating and train riding and shopping is no longer a necessity. We have it all right here in our community.
Unless you’re hiding out in the basement, you’ve probably noticed the “Looney” ness of 2020 so far. I mean, Covid, quarantine, murder hornets, the prince and princess quitting the royal family, the passing of Kobe Bryant, Eddie Van Halen and Ruth Ginsburg.... it’s a lot.
With that said, our community, per its usual, will find the light in the midst of the darkness. It may look a little different this year as we navigate the newness of it all, but nonetheless, we will show our true colors.
This year, the light at the end of the tunnel begins December 3rd, with “A Looney Tunes Christmas” parade beginning at 7:00 p.m.! The parade will follow its usual route, beginning at 4th Avenue, taking a left onto Park, then a right on Main, left on Maple, left on Linden, then right on Park where it will end.
“It’s a perfect theme for this year,” says Fair Board Chairman Don Barber. “Fun themes bring fun entries, so we are excited for this year’s parade.” He went on to explain how this year’s event will be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube by Nunley Media Group. Another fun change is the Fair Board’s offering of $200 to this year’s “Judge’s Choice” entry winner. Judges are not part of the Fair Board.
After the parade, The City of Hohenwald will kick off Christmas in Hohenwald by “Lighting Up The Town.” Numerous sponsors have made it possible to salvage some sort of CIH normalcy by providing “Christmas Lights in the Park,” where folks can take a drive through Memorial Park at night to see the merry and bright lights, including the new First Responders display. “More decorations, more displays, and more lights will don this special place we call home,” said City Mayor Danny McKnight in the announcement. “This was an extremely difficult decision for us, but we felt it to be the most responsible, realistic choice. It’s good to become a kid again, and we’re working hard to find every way possible to let that happen.”
Virtual activities like scavenger hunts for families and small groups will be available to safely enjoy. Jingle Jeeps is also still on the agenda this year. If you have a Jeep, visit the City of Hohenwald’s Facebook page to find out info! And, in a most proper fashion (my opinion), the event will go out with a BANG December 12th with the annual Christmas Fireworks Display. A more detailed schedule will be provided next week, so stay tuned. Also, keep up with all events and updates on Facebook.
