Cars piled into the old Save-A-Lot parking lot by the dozen, squeezing in wherever they could and overflowed into Factory Connection and Dollar General, all hoping to hear their ticket numbers called.
Outlaw Country played crowd favorites like "God's Country" and "Sweet Home Alabama," giving onlookers a reason to dance and sing along.
Then it was time for Sonny Patel, owner of the participating gas stations Darrin's C Mart, Darrin's Market and Nick & Bubba's, to cut the ribbon for the main event.
"Thank you all for coming out, and for making me and my family feel like a part of the community," said Patel.
Vice Mayor Don Barber and Judge Mike Hinson emceed while a designated ticket-drawer, unaffiliated with the event, drew the numbers, and the crowd grew quiet in anticipation. Patel then announced that if the truck was claimed on the same day, then he would pay the taxes.
No hands were raised for the mower or dirt-bike giveaway, but one man nearly held the keys to a brand new truck... until they called out the last number.
On Sunday, Raymond Hand and Dana Hinson made their way to Darrin's Market to claim the dirt bike.
The winning ticket number for the lawn mower that has not been claimed is 465208.
The individual with the winning ticket has 45 days to claim their prize. If the prize goes unclaimed, the Patel family will re-draw ticket numbers.
Casey McBreairty then came forward with the winning ticket for the truck. However, another woman came forward and also claimed she had the ticket. Find out more in next week's paper!
