Positive COVID-19 cases hit over 1,000 for Lewis County

State ranked worst in nation

As the first round of vaccines roll out in Tennessee, the coronavirus pandemic is surging to record levels across the state, landing it among the hardest-hit regions in the United States.

Tennessee ranked worst in the nation with 9,689 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday in the state of Tennessee.

To date, there have been 519,987 cases of the coronavirus reported in the state, of which 78,639 cases are active.

Tennessee confirmed 54 new deaths over the last 24 hours. In all, 6,071 people have died as a result of the virus.

There are currently 2,789 hospitalizations connected to the coronavirus in Tennessee. The state reported 434,977 people have recovered so far.

Lewis County’s numbers surpassed the one thousand mark with reports showing on Sunday that the county had 1,071 positive cases, 19 deaths, 30 hospitalized and 134 active cases. Over the last seven days, the average positive percentage has risen to 20 percent.

A safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine will help to slow the spread of the virus across Tennessee communities.

The vaccine is expected to be in Lewis County this week for distribution to front line workers and first responders.

Maury Regional Health administered the first COVID-19 vaccines to frontline health care workers Thursday, December 17, just hours after receiving the shipment. Among the first to receive the vaccine were physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and emergency medical services personnel.
