Last second shot gives Panthers win

Lady Panthers fall to strong Lady Eagle team

The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers hosted the Camden Lady Lions and Lions on January 8th for District 11AA play.

The Lady Panthers, coming in off a tough loss earlier in the week to East Hickman, took an early 16-15 lead behind 6 points from Kerrigan Reeves and 5 from Jayden Hinson. In the second quarter, the Lady Lions were able to take control of the game and outpaced the Lady Panthers 23-11 in the period to take a 38-27 lead in at the break.

Halftime didn't cool off the visitors as the Lady Lions continued to control the momentum of the game in the third period again pulling away from the Lady Panthers in the period, this time 20-13 in the quarter, and built a 58-40 lead moving into the final eight minutes of regulation. The Lady Panthers wouldn't be able to overcome the deficit in the fourth and dropped the home matchup 76-51.

Keira Halbrooks had 17 for Lewis County, Kerrigan Reeves 12, Mya Siever 11, Jayden Hinson 9, and Emily Bratcher 2. Bailey Morris led the Lady Lions with 21, Rylee Pafford 12, Abby Berry and Adalyn Farr 11, Jadyn Staggs 9, Hayley Lowery 5, Rylee Rushing 4, Faith Wallace 2, and Lauren Burkett 1.

The Panthers were hoping to build on the District 11AA win against East Hickman earlier in the week, but offensive struggles early helped the visitors take a first quarter lead of 22-13 despite 5 each from Dyer Barnes and Bryson Clayburn in the period. The Lions continued to control the game in the second quarter despite 8 points from Barnes, and the visitors held a 47-31 lead at the half.

The Panthers came out of the locker room with a spark as they began chipping away at the Lion lead, outscoring Camden 16-11, and trailed 58-47 as the game moved into the fourth quarter. The Panthers exploded in the final eight minutes when Bryson Clayburn led a charge with 3 big three-point baskets to cut the lead and Camden held a one-point lead as time was winding down. Down one, the Panther senior Slade Moseley got an open look at the basket and knocked down a three to win the game.

Dyer Barnes had 22 in the win, Bryson Clayburn 20, Slade Moseley 17, Levi Thompson 12, and Braden Powers and Rett Middleton had 1 each. Kolbi Jordan had 20 for Camden, Wizdom Lewis, Garrett Vick, and Allan Zyla 12 each, Kaden Story 8, Trenton Moore 6, and Gabe Fosnot 2.
