Lewis County teams fall to CreekWood

The Lewis County Lady Panthers and Panthers hosted the CreekWood Lady RedHawks and RedHawks for District 11AA games on Friday, January 15th.

The Lady Panthers, looking to break into the win column in District 11AA play, got 6 points early from Keira Halbrooks but fell behind 17-10 after the first quarter of play. The Lady RedHawks took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring Lewis County 22-9 to take a 39-19 lead in at the half. The momentum stayed with the visitors after the break, as the Lady Panthers could only come up with 4 points in the quarter as CreekWood took complete control of the game with a 6-23 lead heading into the final quarter of play. With a running clock in the fourth, the Lady RedHawks cruised to a 66-28 win. Keira Halbrooks had 13 for the Lady Panthers, Kerrigan Reeves 9, Mya Siever and Jayden Hinson, 3 each. Laura Nichols had 18 for CreekWood, Brianna Burgess 14, Raegan Taylor and Allie Burgess 12 each, Autumn Burgess 4, Abby Owen 2, and Katie Collins 1.

The Panthers took the floor in the second game looking to win their third straight game after the Christmas break. The Panthers and RedHawks matched baskets early before Rett Middleton broke away for an energizing dunk midway through the first, but the RedHawks settled the game and took a 19-15 lead after one. The RedHawks continued to build a lead in the second, outscoring the Panthers 18-14 despite 7 points from Dyer Barnes, and CreekWood held a 37-29 lead at the half. Middleton had 8 in the third quarter as Lewis County began to pull back into the game, and trailed 61-57 heading into the final period of play. Free throws helped the RedHawks solidify their lead in the fourth as they outscored the Panthers 23-16 in the quarter, and took an 84-75 win. Dyer Barnes had 22 for the Panthers, Levi Thompson 16, Rett Middleton 15, Slade Moseley 12, Bryson Clayburn 7, and Braden Powers 3. Raekwon Nesbitt had 17 for CreekWood, Jace Herrell 15, Jamison Ford and Rex Edmonson 12 each, Cole Adams 10, Kayden Austin 8, Tanner Lampley 6, and Braden Dawson 4.
