The Lewis County High School Panthers baseball team travelled to Summertown to take on the Eagles on Friday, March 19th.
In the top of the first, Slade Moseley delivered a two-out double to left followed by Maddox Cagle being hit by a pitch but the Panthers were unable to push a run across.
Moseley took the bump to start the game for the Panthers, and after a leadoff walk followed by a fielding error the Eagles cleared the bases with a homerun, giving the host an early 3-0 lead.
In the top of the second, Dyer Barnes drew a one-out walk and stole second to get into scoring position, but again the Panthers were kept off the scoreboard. Cagle relieved Moseley, and the Eagles would again get runners on base early with a leadoff walk, a single, a double, and a single to plate three more runs and take a 6-0 lead.
The Panthers would break through in the third as Sloan Moseley led off with a single to centerfield and score on a Slade Moseley double, his second in two at-bats. Cagle would single to score Moseley, and consecutive walks to Kael Feichtinger and Lincoln Brewer would load the bases for Barnes. On a 3-2 pitch, Barnes delivered by driving a Grand Slam over the wall in right center to tie the game at 6.
Hayden Jackson would come in relief of Cagle and work around a two-out double to hold the Eagles scoreless. Slade Moseley and Maddox Cagle would each hit by pitch with two outs in the fourth and Moseley would score on a single by Feichtinger giving the Panthers a 7-6 lead. With two on and two out in the bottom of the fourth the Eagles scored on a three-run homerun to reclaim the lead at 9-7.
The Panthers were taken down in order in the visitor fifth, and Lincoln Brewer came on to relieve Jackson. A leadoff walk followed by a two-run homerun and 3 consecutive singles extended the Eagle lead to 12-7.
The Panthers would again go down in order in the sixth inning, and Sloan Moseley would come to the mound to start the bottom of the inning. Moseley would work around a two-out walk to hold the Eagles scoreless in the sixth as the Panthers still trailed 12-7 heading into their final at-bat.
A leadoff double by Cagle was followed by a two-run homerun to left by Kael Feichtinger to cut it to 12-9, but the Panthers would get no closer and drop the game by the same score.
Kael Feichtinger had 2 hits, a homerun, 2 runs and 2 RBI, Slade Moseley had 2 doubles, 2 runs and 2 RBI, Maddox Cagle had 2 hits, a double, a run and 2 RBI, Dyer Barnes a grand slam, a run and 4 RBI, Sloan Mosleley a hit and a run, and Lincoln Brewer a hit and a run scored.
