LCMS Ladies strike out with Lady Wildcats

The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers softball team hosted the Wayne County Lady Wildcats at Lewis County High School on Monday, March 22nd. The Lady Panthers played as the visitor in the game because it was a makeup of a rainout from last week at Wayne County and was played after the Lewis County High School Lady Panthers played the Wayne County High School Lady Wildcats at LCHS.

With two out in the top of the first Kinlee Keltner reached on an error by the shortstop but the inning ended 2 pitches later on a fielder's choice that forced Keltner at second.

Brailey Carroll started on the mound for Lewis County, and was in a bind early as she hit the leadoff batter and issued a walk before 3 straight singles pushed runs across. The Lady Wildcats scored 5 in the bottom of the first to take an early 5-0 lead.

The Lady Panthers went down in order in the second inning, as did the Lady Wildcats. A two-out single from Makaela Dodson provided Lewis County their only baserunner in the third, and the Lady Panthers went back on defense and retired the Lady Wildcats in order again. C.J. Tanner came up with a hard groundball single up the middle with two outs in the top of the fourth but was left stranded, and the Lady Panther defense held strong in the bottom half and retired the Lady Wildcats in order for the third straight inning.

With two outs in the fifth, Taya Tiller reached on an error by the third baseman, but the Lady Panthers were again kept from moving the baserunner around and still trailed 5-0 after 5 and a half.

A walk and a single started the rally for the Lady Wildcats in the fifth, as they added 3 runs with the help of a sacrifice fly and a two-run homerun to take the lead to 8-0.

A one-out single gave Lewis County a baserunner in the sixth, as Kinlee Keltner singled to center and would later score on a two-out single to left-center by Kabry Adkins. A single to center and a sacrifice brought home another Lady Wildcat in the bottom of the sixth, and two more two-out singles chased home another as Wayne County went up 10-1.

The Lady Panthers would make one final attempt to close the gap in the seventh, with a two-out single from Addison Carroll and a walk to Makaela Dodson, but the Lady Panthers were unable to produce any more runs and took the loss 10-1.

Kinlee Keltner had a hit and scored a run, Makaela Dodson had 1 hit, C.J. Tanner 1 hit, Kabry Adkins a hit and an RBI, and Addison Carroll had a hit. Brailey Carroll went 6 innings, gave up 10 runs on 10 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1.
