LCMS Panthers Collar Bulldogs

The Lewis County Middle School Panthers baseball team hosted the Ethridge Bulldogs on Monday, March 22nd at LCHS.

Steele Moseley took the bump for the Panthers to start the game, and ran into trouble early as the Bulldogs put the leadoff man on board with an error on an infield popup that fell and a hit batter. Moseley dispatched of a baserunner with a pickoff at second but hit the third batter. With two on and one out, the Bulldogs got a drive into the left field corner to plate two, but a perfect relay from deep in the left field corner from Phenix McDonald to Dakota Hull to Cayleb Moore cut down the runner trying to stretch a triple, but the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

In the home half of the first, Jalen Smith walked and stole second, and advanced to third during Steele Moseley's walk. A single from Brayden Whitlow scored Smith. Moseley and Whitlow would each score on passed balls and the Panthers took a 3-2 lead moving to the second.

Moseley would make quick work of the Bulldogs in the second, retiring the visitors in order. Dakota Hull led off the second reaching on an error by the third baseman and back-to-back walks to Maddox Tanner and Phenix McDonald loaded the bases with no outs for Jalen Smith. Smith hit a shot to the first baseman who struggled to make a play and plated Hull. Tanner would score on a passed ball and with one out Whitlow would reach on a dropped third strike. A ground out by Sam Moore would score McDonald, and Kolt Skelton would draw a walk to again load the bases for Nate James. James was hit by a pitch allowing Smith to score, and a passed ball would bring in Whitlow during Hull's at bat in which he would ultimately walk to load the bases. Tanner would draw a walk to score Skelton, and McDonald would follow with a walk to plate James. In all, the Panthers would send 13 batters to the plate in the second and score 7 to take a 10-2 lead.

Moseley would work around 2 walks in the top half of the third to keep the Bulldogs scoreless in the inning. Moseley would draw a leadoff walk in the third, and a 1-out single from Sam Moore would put runners on the corners. Skelton would deliver a single to drive in Moseley, and Nate James would follow with an RBI single. Dakota Hull would line a single to center to plate Skelton, and the Panthers would take a 14-2 lead after three.

Moseley would work a three up/three down inning with 2 strikeouts in the fourth. Pinch-hitter Corbyn Harris led off the home fourth with a single to left, and Kamdyn Anthony followed with a line drive single to center. Whitlow was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Skelton and Cayleb Moore each drew one-out walks to score runs, and an RBI single to right by Hull plated a runner to end the game with the Panthers taking a 17-2 win.

Dakota Hull had 2 hits, a run and 2 RBI, Brayden Whitlow a hit, 3 runs, and an RBI, Sam Moore a hit, a run, and an RBI, Kolt Skelton a hit, 2 runs, and 2 RBI, Nate James a hit, 2 runs, and an RBI, Jalen Smith 2 runs and an RBI, Steele Moseley 2 runs, Maddox Tanner a run and an RBI, Phenix McDonald a run and an RBI, Corbyn Harris a hit and a run, Kamdyn Anthony a hit and a run, and Cayleb Moore an RBI. Steele Moseley went 4 innings for the win, gave up 2 earned runs on 1 hit, walked 3 and struck out 4.
